The Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple stands as the 49th dedicated Temple in operation within the Latter-day Saint faith. This remarkable building is located at 742 N 900 E, American Fork, Utah 84003, and has a significant history that draws many to its doors.
The journey of the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple began on October 3, 1992, when it was officially announced. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on October 9, 1993, led by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. Following several years of anticipation, a public open house was held from August 6 to September 21, 1996. This event attracted an impressive 679,217 people who toured the facilities.
The Temple was dedicated from October 13 to October 19, 1996, again by Gordon B. Hinckley. Since then, it has served as a place of significance within the faith.
Built on a sprawling 16.7 acres, the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple boasts a striking exterior finish of sierra white granite and features stylish art glass windows alongside bronze doors. Its architectural design includes an attached spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, which was installed on July 17, 1995, during a special ceremony attended by approximately 20,000 individuals.
The interior of the Temple spans 107,240 square feet and reaches an impressive height of 190 feet. It also sits at an elevation of 4,764 feet, providing stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The layout features four instruction rooms, eight sealing rooms, and one baptistry. Its adaptive floor plan showcases similarities to the Bountiful Utah Temple, further enhancing its unique architectural character.
The Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple is the second Temple in Utah County and the ninth Temple built in the state. Its construction utilized land designated for church welfare purposes, grounding it in the mission of serving the local population. The building is adorned with the phrase "Holiness to the Lord," which is inscribed twice — once above the east windows and again etched into the glass near the west entrance.
