Tomorrow in worship, we are reading two healing stories from Matthew 9:9-13 and 18-26. Jesus heals two daughters, a woman who reaches out to touch the hem of his garment and Jarius’ young daughter. This past Sunday, Rev. Kevin McNeil surprised us with a visit. Rev McNeil is the Regional Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Tennessee. The regional minister supports congregations across Tennessee, helping with congregational vitality, ministerial transitions, leadership development, and all the many ways churches seek to live out their calling.

This past Sunday, Rev. Kevin McNeil surprised us with a visit. Rev McNeil is the Regional Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Tennessee. The regional minister supports congregations across Tennessee, helping with congregational vitality, ministerial transitions, leadership development, and all the many ways churches seek to live out their calling.

He said, “As a child, I was awkward and introverted which makes my job interesting some days. One of my favorite movies growing up was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, especially the Island of Misfit Toys. What I loved was the idea of a place where everyone belonged.

That’s how I think about the church.

The church is a community where there is room for everyone at God’s table. We come together as disciples, knowing that God has made a place for each of us. Faith communities remind us that we belong.

So thank you for welcoming me this morning, for making me feel at home. Most importantly, thank you for being a witness to God’s love here in Paris.

The world is a better place because there is a congregation on this corner living out the Gospel.
