"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."
Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?”...
"He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
💙 For National Foster Care Month, we are honoring people who have simply said, “I’ll be the one.” The one who shows up. The one who steps in. The one who chooses to care—whether that’s opening a home, volunteering time, or using their gifts to strengthen the foster care community. Every role matters more than words can fully express.
✨ Today, we are honoring Mike and Terry Rowland—two people whose impact on the foster care community is hard to even put into words.
Not only does Ms. Terry faithfully serve on the board of Together We Foster, pour countless hours into our Paragould Clothing Closet, and coordinate meeting foster families there to help provide for their needs, but Terry and Mike have also served as an open foster home for 18 years and 6 months. 🏡
In that time, 233 children have walked through their doors. ❤️
2️⃣3️⃣3️⃣ children who needed safety.
2️⃣3️⃣3️⃣ children who needed someone to say yes.
2️⃣3️⃣3️⃣ children who needed a bed, a meal, compassion, consistency, and love.
That number is incredible, but what’s even more incredible is the heart behind it all. ✨
Terry shared this:
“Each child unique, each child with a different story, and each child needing a safe place. What a journey! To begin with we didn’t choose to be an open foster home, we were chosen. For us it was God’s call to care for the children.
I once heard a sermon about all the material things God has blessed our family with. A good home, plenty of food, finances to sustain us. Then I was reminded these things are temporary and I was challenged at that time regarding how I was using those things to further the kingdom. I was reminded God gave me beautiful healthy children, but as they grew- what were we doing with the extra space/beds, our time, or our finances.
I also heard a testimony from a young girl who was in foster care only wanting somewhere safe to sleep, knowing there would be food to eat, someone to show up and maybe someone to love her. We were able and blessed to do all those things. I knew then it was time to open as a foster home.
We have met some amazing children, teens, and families. Reunification is always a goal. Bonding with bio families has been such a blessing.
Is it hard at times? Yes! But I’m reminded what Christ did for me and it’s not so hard.
You might think our number of children is astronomical, but there are so many times a child needs a safe place to sleep for one night. Anyone who has a bed can do that. Providing a home for a child while a foster parent has surgery or needs to be away, anyone who has a bed can do that.
I pray you will consider doing what you feel led to do. Take the first step, you will be surprised where the journey leads.”
💙 Mike and Terry, thank you for opening your home again and again. Thank you for choosing service, sacrifice, and compassion for nearly two decades. Thank you for being a safe place for so many children and families. Your legacy is written in the lives of every child who walked through your doors, and our community is better because of you both. 🫶
