Hey, parents! As you’re on the road today, let’s start a conversation. There are lots of ways we can practice putting others before ourselves.

Here are some ideas to get you started:
• Help Mom and Dad without being asked. Do things like setting the table, sweeping/vacuuming, or cleaning up your bedroom.
• Invite new people to sit with you at church and school.
• Let someone take your place waiting in line.
• Let someone else take the last cookie or dessert.
• Do a sibling’s chore for them.
• Let a sibling or friend sit in the front seat of the vehicle. (if they are at the legal age of course!)

When we put others before ourselves, we are showing them God’s love without saying a word. Read about this truth in Luke 14:1, 7–15.

We want to be a part of your family discussion! Share your thoughts, conversations, and practical ways to put others first in the comments below.

Today, our kids learned how Jesus wants us to be humble and put others first. After praying and listening for God to speak to them, everyone wrote down a person that God wants them to put first this week. Then we came up with ideas together of ways we can put others first.

Pastor Jenni encouraged the kids to keep this paper somewhere they will see it all week so they can pray for the person they are putting first and remember ways they can put them first.

We're praying for all our little learners going into the second week of school! ✏️📚Parents, above is a quick prayer to help your kids pray over this new week!

Proverbs 3:5–6 — “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
- Ask God to lead you instead of trying to control everything yourself, trust that He will help you through this new school year.

Parents, as you tuck in your kids tonight, take a moment to talk about the story of the woman and the perfume. This woman came to Jesus with all she had and without worrying about what others thought. Let’s read the story together!

READ: Luke 7:36–30
The Bible tells us that while Jesus was eating dinner, a woman came to the house. She brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume and poured it all over Jesus’ feet. Everyone was shocked and angry that the woman would waste this precious perfume on Jesus’ feet, but this was the woman’s way of showing Jesus her great love for Him. Jesus received her gift, forgave her sins, and she left free and full of joy because of Him.

ASK: Why do you think the woman poured the expensive perfume over Jesus’ feet? Do you think she was afraid of what others thought of her?

PRAY: God, thank You for forgiving me of my sins. I want to pour out my love for You and worship You just like the woman with the perfume. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Parents, as you sit down for dinner, take a second to discuss what it looks like to listen to Jesus.
In the story of Nicodemus (John 3:1-21), we learn that Nicodemus realized that there was a lot more to faith than just following the rules; he needed to follow Jesus too. By listening to Jesus, Nicodemus was never the same, and we know the same is true for us. As a family, go around the table and discuss why it is important to listen to Jesus and some practical ways you can do so.

Here are some ideas to get the conversation started:
• How do you listen to Jesus?
• Is it hard to hear Jesus’ voice?
• Why is it important to listen to Jesus?
• Share a time you heard Jesus speak to you and how you responded.

🚨NEW SERIES ALERT🚨
THIS Sunday we will be starting our new series, “Jesus + me”!

Jesus’ offer is remarkably clear: If we look for Jesus, we’ll find Him. He’s not hiding from us, but closely connecting with Him does take us being intentional. We’re called to follow Him, to pursue Him. In the “Jesus + Me” series, we’ll look at how individuals pursued Jesus through the challenges of their circumstances. Pursuing Jesus is not only a mental exercise for personal growth, but it also means living out our faith in tangible ways: showing up, listening carefully, receiving grace, and trusting Him.
We can’t wait for this new series!
