Today we honor the legacy of Yaacov Agam, a pioneer of kinetic and optical art whose work transformed perception into movement, color, and experience.

From his hometown of Rishon LeZion to leading museums around the world, Agam redefined what art can be; interactive, evolving, and alive.

His iconic works include installations at major institutions worldwide, as well as public art that shaped Israel’s cultural landscape, including his famed “Water and Fire” fountain at Dizengoff Square.

A visionary of global significance, Agam placed Israeli art at the forefront of modern creativity and inspired generations of artists to see beyond the static image.

May his memory be a blessing.

Ya'acov Agam is the 2026 Israel Prize laureate for Visual Arts (painting, sculpture, photography) - His Torah ark at Temple Isaiah is shown below.

Ya'acov Agam's works are also part of the permanent collections of the Palm Springs Art Museum and Sunnylands.

We also celebrate the 1980's optimism reflected in the Agam Ark shown above."Agam's contribution to the Temple Isaiah Bochner Sanctuary proved extraordinary and technologically innovative. When the Israeli sculptor and artist was commissioned to build an ark for Temple Isaiah, he designed a colorful glass and Plexiglas cabinet-like structure, leaving the Torah scrolls visible inside—a radical departure from tradition, as scrolls are typically placed in arks with cabinet doors or behind a curtain. The Tash/Agam Ark became thecentral focus in the sanctuary, with Agam-inspired colored upholstered pews creating a unified aesthetic. Agamdesigned and signed the ark—constructed of lucite and acrylic panels with decals of colors that mimic the seats of the sanctuary—setting the color tone for the entire space, its furnishings, and Torah scroll covers."(Preservation status application)

The prize committee emphasized that Agam “broke the boundaries of traditional visual art and pioneered new languages in kinetic art and op art,” highlighting his decades-long impact on Israeli and international art and his core notion of internal change within the artwork and from the viewer’s shifting perspective.

Ya'acov Agam's works are also part of the permanent collections of the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Annenberg's Sunnylands.

We are still reeling from all the excitement of this year’s 13th Annual Palm Springs Jewish Film Festival. One of the highlights was our sponsored screening of The Cakemaker, made possible by the Jewish Federation of the Desert. The event brought together an incredible turnout from the community, celebrating faith, connection, and a shared love of film. Audiences were especially honored to take part in engaging Q&A sessions with director Ofir Graizer, followed by a special appearance from the legendary Renée Taylor. A special thank you to Danny Labin, Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Federation of the Desert, and Leslie Pepper, Director of Community Engagement, for their support in helping make this meaningful event possible. It was truly a wonderful and memorable day for our ever-growing Palm Springs Jewish Film Festival and a beautiful reminder of the power of film to bring people together. 🎬✨

Closing night of the 13th Annual Palm Springs Jewish Film Festival ended on a high note with a special screening of Guns & Moses. The evening brought the community together for a powerful finale, followed by a riveting and engaging Q&A with actor and filmmakers Sal and Nina Litvak. Their behind-the-scenes stories, thoughtful insights, and lively conversation with the audience made for a memorable conclusion to an incredible week of films, dialogue, and connection at the festival’s 13th year. 🎬✨
