Our next Palm Harbor Museum Presents on Wed., April 5th at 6:30 PM at the Palm Harbor Library, promises to be a special program with Terry Fortner and Bob Fortner with CARING FOR CALADESI. Discover through photographs and stories some of the history of Caladesi Island, its beautiful and essential natural habitat, and the work of the environmentalists, rangers, supporters, and caretakers of the island who keep it pristine and one of the natural treasures of our coast.
Caladesi Island’s homesteader, Henry Scharrer, was a self-taught naturalist whose daughter, Myrtle Scharrer Betz grew up with her father’s passion to protect this precious island off the coast of Clearwater/Dunedin Florida that today is Caladesi Island State Park. Today, Friends of the Island Parks shares the same mission of preserving and protecting both Honeymoon and Caladesi Islands.
Terry Fortner—granddaughter of Myrtle Scharrer Betz, and Rev. Bob Fortner, Vice President of the Friends of the Island Parks, will describe how Caladesi Island was and is now given the care it so rightly deserves. All are welcome to this event at no charge. Walk-ins are welcome and reservations are not required, but help us plan. We would be grateful if you reserve your spot at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/palm-harbor-museum-presents-terry-bob-fortner-caring-for-caladesi-tickets-580708433557
