Jesus is the Son of God and was not obligated to pay the temple tax. Yet, He chose to pay it so He would not cause unnecessary offense. This is a powerful lesson in humility for us today. Sometimes giving up our personal rights for the sake of others is the most Christlike thing we can do. Read Matthew 17:24-27.

The disciples did not fully grasp what Jesus was telling them when He predicted His death. It is easy to want a Savior who only conquers, but Jesus came to suffer and lay down His life for us. His betrayal and death were the very path to our salvation. Read Matthew 17:22-23, Mark 9:30-32, and Luke 9:43b-45.

Even faith as small as a mustard seed can accomplish great things when it is placed in the hands of God. We often rely on our own strength, but Jesus calls us to rely entirely on Him. Read Matthew 17:14-21 and Luke 9:37-43a.

"Zion, Zion, I long thy gates to see!"

In a world that feels increasingly unstable, our hearts long for a "habitation" that cannot be shaken. The Bible describes the church and our future home as "Mount Zion... the city of the living God" (Hebrews 12:22).

We sing a ca****la not only because it is the New Testament command, but because there is no instrument on earth that can match the sound of God's people longing for their Creator. It is a foretaste of the victory song we will sing in eternity.
