Last Friday, upperclass campus ministry leaders from across our Catholic High Schools gathered in Delray Beach for (re)FOCUS — a day dedicated to prayer, sharing, and discovering one of life’s most important questions:

“Lord, what is your plan for my life?”

There was also a special appearance of our newly ordained Bishop Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez!

Thank you to our priests, religious sisters, married couples, School of Nazareth students, volunteers, the Serra Club, and all who made this day possible. Please continue to pray for these young men and women!

Palm Beach's Bishop Barbarito retires: Priesthood and episcopacy are a joy and privilege

PALM BEACH GARDENS | For Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito, retirement is just another transition in a joyful, full life as a Catholic priest. A 50-year existence that began in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up, moving to the upper reaches of the state in Ogdensburg, then shifted to South Florida and the Diocese of Palm Beach. Looking back, being able to fulfill his roles in a variety of ministries and experiences, has been a true blessing.

The bishop, who is now bishop emeritus and apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Palm Beach, spoke with the Florida Catholic recently about his life, joys and challenges, emphasizing that he plans to stay busy and continue to serve in whatever capacity suits the diocese’s new chief shepherd, Bishop-elect Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez.

At the priestly ordination of Fr. Jedidiah Preble, Bishop Gerald Barbarito reflected on the deep and contagious joy that marked the life of St. John Bosco.

This was not a superficial happiness, but a joy rooted in total trust in God — a joy that became a powerful witness and drew countless young people closer to Christ. Bishop Barbarito reminded us that this same joy is essential to the priesthood today: a visible sign of hope, freedom, and love that comes from giving one’s life completely to the Lord.

We thank God for Fr. Jedidiah’s “yes,” and we pray that his priesthood may always radiate the joy of the Gospel to all whom he serves.
