At the heart of Genesis 44 are two powerful words: “instead of.”

Judah offered himself instead of Benjamin—pointing us forward to the One who would ultimately take our place.

At the cross, it’s Jesus instead of us.
He took our place. He bore our punishment. He carried our curse. He died our death. And He sets us free.

That’s the good news of the gospel: Jesus instead of us. Jesus in our place.

We often hold tightly to fear, control, guilt, and the things we’re afraid to lose. But Genesis 43 reminds us that God’s grace is greater than we imagine.

When Jacob finally opened his hands and surrendered what he could not control, God was already at work providing peace, compassion, and provision.

Open your hands. Trust Him. His grace is abundant.

God doesn’t abandon His people—He redeems them.

In Genesis 42, God uses famine, fear, and distress to bring Joseph’s brothers face-to-face with their sin and lead them toward repentance and restoration.

What feels like everything working against us may actually be God working for our good and His glory.

Trust. Repent. Rest in His grace.
