Many long-time Harmony Baptist Church members will remember Georgia Neal. Her husband Fred served as our pastor for several years, and Georgia was involved in all the church activities. We're sharing her obituary, lovingly written by her daughter Kelly.

Georgia Mae Neal, lovingly known as Georgia, entered this world on December 26, 1948, and on April 9, 2026, she peacefully passed away in Rusk, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the legacy of love, faith, and family she built throughout her beautiful life.
Georgia was a woman of deep Christian faith, steady devotion, and quiet strength. She lived her life with grace, dignity, and purpose, and she blessed everyone around her with a spirit that was warm, encouraging, and full of compassion. Her life was a testimony of what it means to trust God through every season, to love your family well, and to serve others with humility and joy. She did not simply speak of faith, she lived it each day in the way she treated her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, George W. and Julene Lovelady, as well as her siblings Judy, Joe, and Debbie, and her grandson Jared Neal. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Fred Neal, who stood faithfully beside her through the years, sharing with her a marriage marked by commitment, partnership, and enduring love. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work, and their bond served as an example to all who knew them.
Georgia’s family was the center of her heart. She is survived by her children Glenn Neal and Angie, Bryan Neal, Joey Neal, Justin Neal and Jasmine, and Kelly Halbert and Adam. She leaves behind a treasured legacy in her grandchildren Jason, Megan, Tyler J., Tyler D., C. R. Lavada, Jacey, Jaiden, Kamryn, Laret, Colby, Sarah, Travis, Julie, Caleb, Jenna, Abigail, Eden, Lucas, Avery, and Addison, along with several great-grandchildren who will grow up hearing stories of her love, her laughter, and her unwavering devotion. She is also survived by her siblings George Lovelady, Dolly Lovelady, and Jerry Lamb, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Georgia spent many years working alongside her husband in their privately owned barbershop until retirement, and she carried herself with the same care and dedication in her work as she did in every other part of life. She also served faithfully in many churches over the years as a pastor’s wife, offering support, kindness, hospitality, and a willing heart. Her service was not always seen by the crowd, but it was deeply felt by those who benefited from her prayers, her encouragement, and her steadfast presence.
Her education in cosmetology reflected her natural gift for caring for others, and that same gentle spirit touched everything she did. Georgia found joy in baking pies, candies, and cakes, and she loved preparing big family meals from scratch. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, nourishment, and togetherness. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, watching Blue Bloods and anything on the Game Show Network, and spending precious time with her husband. One of her greatest joys was teaching some of her grandchildren how to bake and helping them create their very own cookbooks, passing on not only recipes but also love, tradition, and memories that will last for generations. She also enjoyed shopping, pedicures, and girls trips with her daughter Kelly and daughter-in-law Angie, moments that brought laughter and closeness and added even more sweetness to her life.
Georgia lived with the kind of faith that reminds us that a life well lived is one rooted in love, service, and trust in God. She was a blessing to her family and a source of strength to many. Her life echoed the truth of Proverbs 31, that a woman of virtue is worth far more than rubies, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were touched by her example. Georgia’s love remains woven into the hearts of those she leaves behind, and her influence will continue to live on in the lives she shaped.
A celebration of Georgia’s life will be held on Tuesday April 21, 2026 at 1:00pm at Muse Missionary Baptist Church located in Elkhart, Texas with her son Justin Neal officiating the services. All are invited to attend and celebrate the life and legacy of Georgia. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Guidestone Mission: Dignity, which helps honor retirement aged Southern Baptist ministers.
