**Rita Rabbit 2019-July 18, 2026**
Rita Rabbit died on Saturday.
The first picture I have of him is September 30, 2019. It’s hard to believe we had him almost 7 years.
He was running across the street, and ran right into the back of my son’s car. He stopped immediately and saw what happened. Rita was laying in the street bleeding. He couldn’t just leave the poor rabbit laying in the street to die, so he brought him home. He thought for sure that the rabbit would be dead by morning, but he wasn’t. He fed him for a couple of days, but had no idea how to take care of him. No person or rescue would take him, so he brought him to us. We had no idea how to take care of a wild rabbit, but we certainly were not gonna let him die. What happened to him I’m sure, is that he suffered a traumatic brain injury. He could only run in circles and his head, leaned to one side. At first, we thought he was a girl, so I named him Rita Rabbit. Nothing was ‘showing’ to tell me she was a boy. It wasn’t until about a month later that it became evident that Rita was a boy, but by that time I wasn’t gonna change his name. So he stayed with the name, Rita, Rabbit, kinda like a boy named Sue.
Rita sure had favorite foods. He loved strained asparagus baby food. He also ate strained corn, green beans, and peas, but asparagus was his favorite. For fresh food, he ate spinach, red leaf lettuce, spring mix, red or green Bell Peppers, thin strips of carrot, and Cilantro, but he especially liked thin slices of apple. In addition he had a bowl of rabbit food available at all times, and water. I posted the ingredients of the rabbit food before. There must be over 100 ingredients in it.
Lately, we could tell he was starting to have some issues. I fed him at 5:30 this morning, and he ate well, but later he was face down in in his leftover food. We took him out and washed his face and cleaned up his butt and his feet, which were messy. We cleaned him all up and put him back in his condo. I checked on him a couple of times, and petted him, but the third time, he was gone. Very sad, but he has no more issues now. We loved you Rita Rabbit. ❤️🩹
