Brothers and sisters,
The Written Word of God teaches us that, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens" (Ecclesiastes 3:1). The only thing that will last forever is the Kingdom of God. Although the Church will always continue, local congregations have beginnings and endings.
After months of prayerful discernment, the FUMC of Pahokee Leadership Council has decided that it might be time for our church to close. The dwindling bank account, lack of adequate income and small number of active members have made the continuation of our local congregation untenable. If things continue without change, there will be close to zero dollars in the bank account by January or February of 2023. Most importantly, our local congregation has, for over 100 years, fulfilled its God given mission and vision. It may be time for our season to be over.
The decision to close a local congregation can only be made by a church conference. This provides a voice to every member. We will, therefore, have a church conference on October 30, 2022, at 2 PM at FUMC of Pahokee. This church conference will decide whether to close.
If the church conference decides to close, the closure date will be November 28, 2022. The last Sunday worship will be November 27 @ 11 AM. It will be a "Celebration of Life" worship Service for FUMC of Pahokee. A luncheon in the fellowship hall will follow this service.
As your pastors, we realize how hard this is. Many people have exchanged marital vows, attended memorial services, and developed relationships with Christ at our church. It is akin to losing a loved one. Therefore, if you need any pastoral support, give us a call.
May God's grace give us peace & joy during this hard time.
