Welcome to Southland Baptist Temple of Paducah, Kentucky! 🍉 Watermelon Bust is almost here!
Join us on July 5 at 5:00 PM at the SBT Pavilion for an evening of great food, sweet fellowship, and plenty of watermelon.
Bring a lawn chair and a softball glove, then stick around after the meal for a softball game. It’s always a great time together, and we’d love to see you there!

In 1 Chronicles 28:1-11, David gathered the leaders of Israel and gave Solomon a final charge before the building of the Temple. Though David would never build it himself, he faithfully prepared the way for the next generation to accomplish what God had placed in his heart.

David gave Solomon more than plans for a building. He gave him a pattern for life.

He taught him the pattern of a relationship with God: “know thou the God of thy father” (v. 9). He taught him the pattern of responsibility: “serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind.” He taught him the pattern of reflection, reminding him that the Lord searches every heart. Finally, he taught him the pattern of resolution: “if thou seek him, he will be found of thee.”

David also gave Solomon a solemn warning: “but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.” David wanted his son to understand that the blessings of walking with God are real, but so are the consequences of turning away from Him. A life lived in obedience to the Lord brings His favor, while a life lived in rebellion brings hardship and heartache.

The greatest legacy a father can leave is not found in possessions or accomplishments, but in a life that points his children to Christ. None of us will get it right every time, but by God’s grace we have another opportunity each day to set a godly example for those who are following behind us.

The Purpose of the Pulpit

Nehemiah 8:1-4 reminds us of the importance of the pulpit and the place God’s Word should have among His people. After the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt despite great opposition, the people gathered together to hear the Book of the Law read before them.
Throughout Scripture, some have abused the pulpit (Philippians 1:15-16), while others have abandoned it (2 Timothy 4:10). Yet God’s purpose for the pulpit has never changed. It is to be a place where Jesus Christ is exalted, the Word of God is faithfully preached, and the Gospel is proclaimed in power.
In Nehemiah 8:5-6, we see the respect, reverence, and response given to the preaching of God’s Word. The pulpit should always point people to Christ, producing worship, obedience, and a greater awareness of God’s presence.
The purpose of the pulpit is to edify the believer, encourage the body of Christ, enlist God’s people to serve, and evangelize the sinner with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

May we always value the preaching of God’s Word and the place it should hold in our lives.

There is no greater place for your life to be than on the Potter’s wheel.

In Jeremiah 18:1-4, God directed Jeremiah to the potter’s house to witness a powerful illustration of His work in the lives of His people. As the potter worked with the clay, the vessel became marred in his hands. Yet rather than discarding it, the potter patiently reshaped it and made it into another vessel as he saw fit.
What an encouragement to know that God does not give up on us. When failures, struggles, and imperfections appear in our lives, the Master Potter continues His work, molding and shaping us according to His purpose.
The Potter’s wheel is a picture of surrender and transformation. As clay yields to the hands of the potter, we must yield our lives to God, allowing Him to shape us into the people He desires us to be.
A potter also keeps water nearby while working with clay. Without water, the clay becomes hard and difficult to mold. In the same way, the Word of God keeps our hearts soft, tender, and responsive to His leading. Without the water of God’s Word, our lives become hardened and resistant to His work.

Stay on the wheel. Stay in the Word. Trust the Potter. He is still shaping, molding, and making us into vessels that bring honor and glory to Him.

We’ve had a week full of fun, memories, and God’s blessings. We can’t wait to share some highlights and celebrate all that God has done tomorrow during Sunday Morning Worship at 10:30 AM.

Day 2 of Kids Camp was packed from start to finish! From swim time and the slip ’n slide to the talent show and chapel services, there was never a dull moment. Campers also enjoyed track times with archery, canoeing, fishing, crafts, dance, and water games. To top it all off, we wrapped up the day with an awesome carnival party!

Take a look at some of the highlights from Day 2! Today we’ll be heading home with hearts full, plenty of memories, and lots of stories to tell about an incredible week.

Parents, please plan to pick up your campers this afternoon no later than 2:00 PM. We can’t wait to see you!
