Lotus Buddhist Circle

Lotus Buddhist Circle The Lotus Buddhist Circle is where the teachings in Buddhism meet everyday life. Come join us. These were recorded in the form of sutras.

Many have come to dismiss Buddhism as a simple philosophy. To those who have devoted their time to discovering, studying and exploring Buddhism, comes the realization that it is a religion — and one that deeply concentrates on the eternity of life. Buddhism not only acknowledges and focuses on the eternal, but also becomes an important form of stre

ngth that liberates us from the many forms of human suffering that we may encounter in life. It is very logical in its teachings; there is never any demand put upon us to carry a belief in blind faith. Buddhism also emphasizes the potential for all living beings to attain enlightenment: that innate sense found deep within us all. Shakyamuni Buddha, the spiritual leader whose teachings formed the founding of Buddhism, delivered to his close followers many discourses. The Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Dharma is widely revered as the core and culmination of his teachings, which include modern, scientific, and humanistic truths.

We study the teachings of Buddhism, with a special focus on the Lotus Sutra. We greatly respect and regard its high ideals and natural applicability in daily life. Lotus Buddhist Circle (LBC) is one of many fellowship groups affiliated with Rissho Kosei-Kai, a Japanese lay Buddhist organization that came into existence during the 1930s — a time when great turmoil and despair were rampant throughout Japan. Founded by Nikkyo Niwano and Myoko Naganuma, they were able to reach out to and relieve many people of their sufferings, including illness, depression, and anxiety, through the concrete application of Basic Buddhism and the teachings of the Lotus Sutra. Today, by following their example, we are inspired to deepen our understanding and practice of the bodhisattva way as a means for finding happiness in our lives and for cultivating compassion in the lives of others. Our sharing circle, which we call Hoza, is the starting point where we bring Buddhist perspectives into our daily lives. Hoza is the common bond that enables us to bring up for discussion any daily occurrences and/or transgressions; then, through the support, reflection and prayer of our community of fellow believers, one begins to gain true insight and enlightenment.

• You can learn to better solve problems by following Buddha’s essential teachings of the Four Noble Truths, the Twelve-Link Chain of Dependent Origination, and the Six Perfections.

• You can gain deep appreciation for your life on this earth.

• You can regain balance in both physical and spiritual well-being.

• You can live an empowered and inspired life.

Tuesdays — Lotus Sutra recitation, Mantra chanting, and Meditation followed by Study Session. Sundays — We meet once a month for Lotus Sutra recitation, Mantra chanting, and Hoza.

The new March issue of Living the Lotus is available at the link below. President Niwano's message this month reminds us to share what we learn from Buddha's teachings. It's not just about reading and learning, but really applying to real-life situations. Tell someone how you personally benefited from following the teachings. This truly has the most impact.

Please take a look at the June issue of Living the Lotus from RK! President Niwano's guidance emphasizes sharing our joy in the Dharma. If "rejoicing in the Dharma" is rephrased to, "feel inspired", we can see so many more instances in our daily lives that fall into this category. We can feel more at ease sharing with others. Gassho. :-)

Please take a look at April's issue of Living the Lotus! President Niwano reminds us that, "We are able to attain peace of mind (having a well-rounded heart and mind) when we do not constantly compare ourselves with others."

The October of issue of Shan Zai is available at the link below. Sorry for the late notice. If you read President Niwano's guidance, you can see how appropriate it is for the world we live in now.

How much is enough?
