Chevelle remembers arguing with God to let her die. As a child, she endured abuse that led to multiple su***de attempts. At 13, she overdosed on sleeping pills. Later, she lost custody of her children and found herself sleeping alone in her car.

Earlier this month, Jessica and other mothers in the program were honored through Love You More, a special event created by the students and staff of Saint Bonaventure High School and supported by Chick-fil-A Leader Academy.

“I was literally on death’s door. After my son was taken from me, I tried to commit su***de a few times. At one point, I was on life support. I felt like death was the only option for me and I no longer had any will to live.”

Rebecca reached a breaking point she didn’t think she could come back from. In jail, she opened herself to God, came to the Lighthouse, and entered the Life Recovery Program.

Today, she is sober, stable, and working at the Mission. She now helps other women find the same hope she once needed.

We celebrated Desiree and Karen as they graduated from our 10-month Life Recovery Program. It’s been powerful to watch their transformation. Growing in strength, maturity, kindness, and grace. They’ve left behind the weight of their past and are now walking forward with renewed hope, joy, and purpose.

We’re grateful to City Church California for hosting such a meaningful evening and creating a space to honor these life-changing moments.

Director Leslie is standing in our Women’s Emergency Shelter, where mothers and children come for safety, a warm bed, and a hot meal at no cost. The carpet beneath them is worn and over ten years old. We want to give them a space that reflects the care they are shown here.
