EVENING DEVOTION

2 Corinthians 3:4-6
And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Commentary:
Paul speaks here about the other apostles and those serving the Lord alongside of Him. He continues to boast only in the Lord, naming God as their sole sufficiency. It is God who made them “competent as ministers of the new covenant” (NIV), and the same holds true today. Those who have been called to ministry stand upon the foundation of Christ Jesus, according to the prerogative, authority, and sovereignty of God. If they minister truly, they do so because God is in them and speaks life through Holy Spirit. Men do not deserve worship, nor can they bear being worshiped. Those in ministry who are praised ought to redirect that worship to the Lord. He alone is worthy – it is He who has received all authority on earth from our loving Heavenly Father. The law does not save, men do not save, only Jesus saves.

MORNING DEVOTION

Romans 8:37

I Am More Than a Conqueror

When hardship hits, it's easy to feel defeated before the battle even begins. But God doesn’t see you as barely surviving. He sees you as more than a conqueror through Christ. Victory isn't about your strength; it's about whose you are. The One who loves you has already won.

Negative Thought:
"I can't overcome this. I'm defeated."

Truth to Replace It:
I am more than a conqueror through Christ who loves me. (Romans 8:37)

Think About It:
What battle feels overwhelming today? How does knowing Christ has already won change how you face it?

EVENING DEVOTION

Isaiah 11:1-2
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

Commentary:
Once again in the Old Testament we find assurance that Jesus is the Messiah. The NLT says, “a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root”. The Holy Spirit will rest upon Christ and He will usher in a new covenant through His blood. For us, this is part of history, it has happened and we look back upon the cross with great hope of the promised eternal life in Him. Jesus Christ is everything: the fulfillment of the old covenant, and the bringer of the new.

MORNING DEVOTION

Philippians 4:13

I Can Do What God Calls Me to Do

In Philippians 4:13, when Paul says he can do all things through Christ who strengthens him, he's not promising superhuman abilities. He's saying that when God calls you to something, He equips you to walk through it.

His strength becomes your strength. What feels impossible in your own power becomes possible in His.

Negative Thought:
I can't do this. I don't have what it takes.

Truth to Replace It:
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13, NKJV)

Think About It:
What is God calling you to do right now that feels beyond your ability? How would it change your approach if you believed His strength was already at work in you?

EVENING DEVOTION

Acts 13:2-3
As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

Commentary:
Barnabas and Saul are commissioned to the work God has called them to. Fasting with a heart that is seeking the Lord builds our relationship with God. There is power in it, and the early church regularly practiced it. Guided by the Holy Spirit, fasting is part of their lives surrendered to Jesus. It is uplifting to see these men seeking God and praying together, and then to be affirmed and encouraged by the Holy Spirit. Lord God, if we seek You – You promise that we will find You. Lead us to true worship! John 4:23 says, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.”

MORNING DEVOTION

Joshua 1:9

I Am Not Alone

God doesn't just promise to stay with you when things are going well. He promises He is with you wherever you go. That means you can face uncertainty, change, and even loneliness with courage because you're not carrying it alone. His presence is constant, not conditional.

Negative Thought:
"I'm all alone. No one understands what I'm going through."

Truth to Replace It:
I'm not alone. God is with me wherever I go. (Joshua 1:9)

Think About It:
When you feel alone this week, how can remembering God's presence change the way you respond?
