MORNING DEVOTION

Matthew 16:19

Authority

God’s house is the highest. He has given us the keys of the kingdom of heaven, which is His authority.

The church operates in the highest authority ever available (Matthew 18:18). Our authority is in no one else but Jesus, and we can use this authority in any circumstance and any situation.

God has given us such superior power so that the church can legislate on earth on His behalf. Nothing in the kingdom of darkness can overcome you as a believer or the church. We have been made to sit far above principalities and powers (Ephesians 1:19-21). It is from this position of sitting that we wield authority over any work of the devil.

Scripture says if two or three persons can agree on a matter, heaven will respond to their request. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatsoever you lose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

This is a reality for communal prayer. The power we wield corporately is powerful. Take advantage of this today by joining a brother or sister to pray about a matter you desire to see the Lord intervene in.

PRAYER:

I acknowledge that the power of God in me is stronger than any power of the enemy. I come against any work of satan in my life and in the life of my brethren in the name of Jesus.

EVENING DEVOTION

Acts 9:4-9
And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

Commentary:
Saul, on his way to Damascus to persecute the church, is confronted by Jesus Christ. Saul’s response is to fall on his knees in utter helplessness before Him. Jesus charges Saul to enter the city of Damascus where someone will tell him what to do. Saul is blind, begins a three day fast, and now depends on his companions to make it anywhere. Saul’s encounter with Jesus changed his life and shook everything he believed. You cannot truly encounter Jesus and be left the same. Saul did nothing to be worthy of salvation in Christ Jesus. He persecuted the church to the point of murder and was throwing people in jail because of their faith. If you knew Jesus, you were Saul’s enemy: until this day on the Damascus Road. From this point on, people would see a new man who has been born again in Christ Jesus. Jesus transforms your life.

MORNING DEVOTION

2 Corinthians 6:7
1 Corinthians 3:9

God’s House

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

After Peter confessed the person of Jesus by revelation, Jesus says that upon this rock—referring to Himself—the foundation of Christ's church would be built. The church is God’s project on earth. And we, like Peter, are living stones built into a spiritual house (1 Cor 3:9).

And it is God who builds His house. Not you. Not the pastor. But all these are co-labourers with God. Man can only cooperate with Him to build. Though God is the one responsible for building His house, he employs functionaries in building His house. That's why the reason for the five-fold ministry is the apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists, and preachers.

Every believer is a living stone built upon Christ. You and I are the church. Scripture says you are God’s building, the temple of God. This house exists everywhere yet manifests uniquely in different places.

Also, as God’s house, you must be built on the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 3:10. Paul emphasizes that no other foundation can be laid apart from Jesus. When you are rooted and built up in Christ, you become unshakable. Nothing, not life, death, success, or failure, can move you away from Him.

And as God’s house, you are to live holy because God is holy. You are God’s temple and must be kept holy (1Cor 3:16).

Prayer:

Lord, reveal yourself to me in your Word so that I can be built on you and nothing else.

EVENING DEVOTION

Isaiah 26:1-3
In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks. Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Commentary:
Today’s verse is just one part of a song of praise to the Lord. This sure prophecy affirms the work that Christ does on the cross, and it affirms the character of God. It is through Christ we are made righteous before God, and it is by grace through faith in Him alone that we are saved. He is the defender of the faithful and takes up the cause of the oppressed. Grafted in as a part of the body of Christ Jesus, we share in this victorious song! “We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation!” (NLT) Thank You for saving me Lord!
