Pastor Josh Woodall Salem United Methodist Church is located on Salem Road just three miles from the center of Oxford, North Carolina. Our congregation was founded in 1828, and the current sanctuary was constructed in 1860. Our church is on the National Registry of Historic Places and provides a contemplative space for congregational worship.

📖 “Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.” — John 3:3

In a late-night conversation with a religious leader, Jesus spoke about new birth. He referred to being renewed by God’s Spirit. To be “born from above” is to allow God to reshape our vision, our priorities, and our hearts.

“Walking Through Lent: Companions on the Journey” is a 6-week Wednesday evening Bible study exploring the people who encountered Jesus in the Gospel of John—Nicodemus coming at night with questions, the woman at the well, the man born blind, Mary and Martha at Lazarus’s tomb, and others whose stories reveal profound truths about faith, doubt, and transformation.

Out of an abundance of caution for everyone’s safety, we have made the decision to cancel worship services this Sunday due to the forecasted snowfall and dangerously cold temperatures expected in our area. It is hard to believe we have a second weekend of winter weather!

Your safety is our top priority, and we do not want anyone traveling on hazardous roads or being exposed to extreme weather conditions.

We look forward to gathering together again next Sunday. In the meantime, please stay warm, check on your neighbors, and know that you remain in our prayers.
