THE GUARDIAN OF THE NEST

This morning, after a restless night of stomach cramps and little sleep, I finally drifted off and woke again near midday.

As I stood in my kitchen, I looked out the window and saw her.

A robin.

Perched quietly upon her nest beneath the eaves of the house.

She wasn't singing.
She wasn't flying.
She wasn't searching.

She was simply there.

Watching.
Waiting.
Guarding.

Faithfully sitting where she had been called to sit.

I stood inside, careful not to disturb her. Through the window I snapped a picture and watched for a few moments. She never left her post.

As I looked at that little bird, my mind drifted to the words of Jesus:

"Behold the fowls of the air..." (Matthew 6:26)

The robin does not know the future. She cannot see the hatchlings that are still hidden beneath her. She does not know the day they will emerge or the day they will fly away.

Yet she remains faithful to today's assignment.

How often I struggle with that.

I want answers about tomorrow.
I want certainty about next week.
I want to know how every chapter will end.

Yet God often calls me to do exactly what that robin was doing.

Stay.
Trust.
Wait.

The robin sits because instinct tells her what her Creator designed her to do.

The believer waits because faith tells him what his Savior has promised to do.

As I watched her guarding that nest, I was reminded that while she was protecting her little family, Someone greater was protecting both of us.

The God who watches over the robin watches over His children.

The God who sees the nest beneath the eaves sees the burdens hidden in our hearts.

The God who gives life to the birds of the air is still sustaining His people today.

Perhaps the greatest lesson from the guardian of the nest is this:

Faithfulness is not always found in movement.

Sometimes faithfulness is found in remaining.

Remaining in prayer.
Remaining in hope.
Remaining in trust.

Simply staying where God has placed us until He says otherwise.

And so the robin remained on her nest.

And I walked away reminded that the same God who guards the robin's nest is guarding my life as well.

"The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore."

Through Dim Eyes

We live in a world overflowing with beauty, yet we see so little of it.

The sunrise breaks across the horizon in colors we cannot fully name.
The ocean reflects light in shades too countless to measure.
The night sky stretches endlessly above us, filled with stars beyond number.

And still, our eyes only capture a fraction of what truly exists.

Science tells us that humanity sees only a narrow band of light within a vast spectrum. There are colors our eyes cannot perceive, wonders hidden beyond our natural vision, and realities surrounding us every moment that remain unseen.

Yet perhaps that limitation is more than physical.

Spiritually, we also “see through a glass, darkly.”

We understand only pieces of God’s plan.
We glimpse moments of His glory.
We catch reflections of His goodness in creation, mercy, love, and grace.

But we do not yet see fully.

Still, even through dim eyes, creation whispers of the Creator.

Every sunrise hints at His faithfulness.
Every rolling wave echoes His power.
Every star-filled sky reminds us that eternity is real.

And if a fallen world can still hold this much beauty, what must heaven be like?

What will it be like to see without weakness?
Without sorrow?
Without fear?
Without the limitations of mortal flesh?

One day the child of God will open perfected eyes in a perfect kingdom.

No more shadows.
No more dim glass.
No more partial understanding.

And the greatest wonder will not simply be streets of gold or gates of pearl.

It will be seeing Jesus Christ as He is.

The One we have trusted by faith…
finally seen by sight.

Perhaps that is why beauty moves us so deeply now.

It is the soul remembering that it was created for a glory far greater than this present world can fully reveal.

Thankful for the opportunity to preach this morning at our church. Psalm 29--7 times the Psalmist makes mention of the power of the voice of God. In all the noise of the world, it's good to know that we can still hear the "still small voice" of God speaking peace to His children! Thank you Bible Evangelical Church of Oxford for praying for me today. I love y'all! I love my church family!

After years of people encouraging me to write a book, I finally took the step and did it.
I’m humbled, grateful, and honestly a little overwhelmed to officially announce that my books are now live on Amazon in multiple formats, including Kindle, paperback, and hardcover editions.
“Grace and Mercy—The Anthem, and the God Who Pursued” is deeply personal and shares much of my testimony, reflections, and the grace of God through difficult seasons of life.
“Through Every Season” is a collection of poems, devotionals, and reflections written through many different moments and seasons along the journey.
To everyone who encouraged me, prayed for me, read my writing over the years, or simply believed I could do this when I doubted myself—thank you.
Most of all, I thank God for His grace, mercy, patience, and faithfulness.
I never imagined seeing this become reality.
