Twas the night before VBS at Oxford Baptist Church,
And volunteers hurried with purpose and search.
The crafts had been sorted and snacks were in place, with excitement and joy shining bright on each face.
The children were dreaming of games they would play, of songs they would sing and adventures each day. While parents packed backpacks and set out their shoes, anticipating Bible stories and good news.
The hallways were decorated, colorful and bright,
With banners and posters bringing scripture to light.
The classrooms were ready, the lessons prepared,
By teachers and helpers who lovingly cared.
The pastor looked on with a thankful heart,
Knowing God’s work was already about to start.
The prayers had been offered, the plans had been made, trusting the Lord every step of the way.
Then out in the parking lot there arose such a cheer,
As volunteers gathered, the big day drawing near.
They laughed and they worked with a servant’s delight, putting final touches on everything just right.
And as the last lights in the building grew dim,
The church rested quietly, depending on Him.
For tomorrow brings children from near and from far,
To learn of God’s love and just who they are.
So sleep well, Oxford Baptist, your labor’s not small,
For the message of Jesus is the greatest of all.
And we’ll see you at VBS, with smiles shining bright—
Happy VBS Eve to all, and to all a good night!
