Sunday, Continued: Witnessing in Babylon

Sunday’s sermon may be over- but the work of faithfully living it out continues.

As we close our Promise and Peril: Discipleship in a Digital Age series, Pastor Ben reminds us that we are called to be witnesses in Babylon- online and in person.

The world around us will always contain systems, structures, and influences that can pattern our hearts away from Christ. But our response isn’t simply to withdraw.

God called His people in exile to plant, bless, pray, build relationships, and seek the good of the communities where He had placed them.

The same is true for us.

We don’t possess the Gospel because we are somehow better than the people around us. The Gospel was given to us by grace—and it is meant to be given away.

And we don’t do that by relying on our own strength.

We return again and again to the faithfulness of Jesus.
His wisdom.
His mercy.
His forgiveness.
His Spirit at work within us.

Whether we are online or offline, the question isn’t simply whether technology is good or bad. It’s whether the things we allow into our lives are shaping our hearts toward- or away from- faithful life in Christ.

As you move forward from this series, consider:

Where might you need a healthier boundary with technology?

Who could you invite into that struggle to encourage you, pray for you, and help hold you accountable?

And above all, remember: our faithfulness rests in the faithfulness of Jesus. He will not leave or forsake us.

It is a good time to be His Church.

Sunday, Continued: The Gospel of Me

Sunday’s sermon may be over- but the work of reflecting, abiding, and living it out continues.

We live in an age that gives us countless opportunities to shape how others see us. We can curate the image, hide the mess, chase approval, and quietly begin measuring our worth by appearances.

But appearances were never meant to carry the weight of our identity.

Vanity promises something solid, but like v***r, it slips through our fingers. And when we spend our lives trying to be admired, approved of, or perceived a certain way, we miss the freedom of being fully seen and fully loved.

That is the gift we have in Jesus.

He sees the whole portrait- the beautiful, the broken, and everything we would rather hide- and He does not abandon us. Christ humbled Himself, took the form of a servant, went to the cross, and gave His life to restore what sin has broken.

You do not have to create the perfect image.
You do not have to earn approval.
You do not have to convince Jesus you are worth loving.

Your life is already held in the pierced hands of Christ.

And because of that, humility gives us a surprising kind of freedom: not to think more highly of ourselves or less of ourselves, but to think of ourselves less- to look outward, serve others, listen, encourage, and love as Christ has loved us.

Where are you most tempted to manage your image or seek the approval of others?

And what might change this week if you rested instead in the truth that you are already fully seen and fully loved in Christ?

Sunday, Continued.
Carry Sunday’s message with you into the week.
