The OHCC continues to replace plastic veteran flag holders with metal ones that are conflict specific. Today World War I veterans in Owls Head received new flag holders thanks to the support of our Select Board and citizens. Here are just a few.

We are pleased to show that two more Owls Head veterans have new headstones. The OHCC applied for and installed both recently.

In celebration of the Nation’s 250th anniversary, members of the OHCC trimmed shrubbery and cleaned the Owls Head Veterans Memorial today. Before and after photos below.

Memorial Day, 2026
Owls Head has 7 known gravesites for Revolutionary War veterans. This year, our country’s semiquincentennial, we honor them in particular for their service. The memorial in the photo, located in the Village Green, was created for the bicentennial.

In total there 194 veterans buried in Town and all have veteran flag holders/medallions which stay up year round. The flags however are only put out for a week at a time, for Memorial Day and for Veterans Day.

Cemetery Decorations - Please note that it is the responsibility of the lot owner/family to remove graveside decorations in a timely manner. Owls Head cemeteries have a carry in, carry out policy - there are NO trash receptacles in the cemeteries. Old, faded and/or broken decorations and floral arrangements must be removed immediately to aid mowing and w**d whacking.
