SUNDAY’S SERMON
Date: Sept. 1, 2024 @ 11am
Sermon: "Who Has Itching Ears?”
Series: Itching Ears and Sound Doctrine, Msg. 9
Scripture: 1 Timothy 1:9-10 NIV
Preacher: Dr. R.E. Banks

ABOUT THE BOOK OF 1 TIMOTHY:
Paul, who was in Rome when this letter was written in AD62-63, sent a letter to Timothy. Paul also sent letters to Titus and Philemon. The letters are referred to as pastoral epistles pertaining to governance. Paul considered Timothy his true son in faith, he took Timothy on his 3rd missionary voyage, and they loved each other deeply until Paul died.

MESSAGE:
Many individuals rejoice in your downfalls and tribulations because they do not understand what it means to be blessed; they try to hinder God’s many breakthroughs in your life.

The law Paul referred to in this scripture is not made for the righteous. The truth of the law is to point out to man his sinful nature. Those who think they are squeaky clean, and not sinners, should check out the law. Lawbreakers, rebels and the sinful would try to make you feel guilty about the law. They are liars, backstabbers, and gossipers, and are guilty of having itchy ears. Listen to the entire sermon @ OpenDoorChurchMinistries.com/Sermons.

SUNDAY’S SERMON - AUGUST 25 @ 11am ET
Sermon: "Keep the Faith”
Series: Itching Ears and Sound Doctrine, Msg. 8
Scripture: Titus 1:9 NIV
Preacher: Dr. R.E. Banks

ABOUT THE BOOK OF TITUS
It is believed this book was written prior to Paul’s 2nd epistle to Timothy. This was the last of Paul’s existing writings. Titus was born of gentile parents and was converted from heathenism. His name meant honor. He carried the 2nd epistle back to the church in Corinth and shared with Paul how the Corinthians received his letter, which was written from Nicopolis in 67-68AD prior to Paul’s 2nd imprisonment in Rome.

MESSAGE:
The word “faith” is used by believers [and even non-believers]. It means complete trust and loyalty to God; a belief of strong convictions, steadfastness, and fidelity. Keep the faith; that faith of assurance, confidence, conviction. The faith that Paul and Titus had.
As Adam Clayton Powell said about the Harlems of the world, “Keep the faith, baby”. Listen to the entire sermon @ OpenDoorChurchMinistries.com/Sermons.

The International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is celebrated annually on Friday, August 23, 2024. UNESCO established the day in 1998 to honor those who fought against the transatlantic slave trade and to remember the victims. The date marks the beginning of an uprising on the island of Saint Domingue (now Haiti) in 1791, which was a significant event in the abolition of the slave trade. OpenDoorChurchMinistries.com

HAPPY SENIOR CITIZEN'S DAY!
“Throughout our history, older people have achieved much for our families, our communities, and our country. That remains true today, and gives us ample reason this year to reserve a special day in honor of the senior citizens who mean so much to our land.

“With improved health care and more years of productivity, older citizens are reinforcing their historical roles as leaders and as links with our patrimony and sense of purpose as individuals and as a Nation. Many older people are embarking on second careers, giving younger Americans a fine example of responsibility, resourcefulness, competence, and determination. And more than 4.5 million senior citizens are serving as volunteers in various programs and projects that benefit every sector of society. Wherever the need exists, older people are making their presence felt—for their own good and that of others.” — President Ronald Reagan, 1981-1988

SUNDAY’S SERMON - AUGUST 18
Sermon: "Everybody Does Not Want What You Have”
Series: Itching Ears and Sound Doctrine, Msg. 7
Scripture: Proverbs 4:1-7 NIV
Preacher: Dr. R.E. Banks

ABOUT THE BOOK OF PROVERBS
This book is known to be written by Solomon, the son of David. Solomon collected or spoke most of the scriptures in this book, which is known for its brevity. He spoke 3,000 proverbs. The book of Proverbs is known for its brevity. The New Testament references that Proverbs testifies clearly to the divine authority of the book.

MESSAGE:
In the Bible, coveting is an evil desire to have something that belongs to someone else. And it goes against God’s nature. Exodus 2:17 says you shall not covet your neighbors’ house...nor anything that is your neighbors. Coveting kills contentment, joy, and peace. Solomon is addressing more than one person, including you and me. Scholars believe that his intended audience has become students. Solomon appeals to his sons to listen to his instructions. Pay attention and gain understanding. Then, you may gain insight and discernment toward a right course of action.

Everybody doesn’t want what you have because you have insight, good habits, wise instruction, morals, values, and good advice. Nor does everybody want the benefits you received when you accepted God: forgiveness for sins because the blood of Jesus has made atonement for you, deliverance from the power and the effects of sin, eternal life, purpose, relationship with God, and salvation. Everybody does not want what you have because in their minds, they’re living their best life. But you know better. In your case, get understanding and hold on to it no matter what.
