I had a full and blessed day this past Sunday. The blessing started out that morning at Concord Baptist Church (Ten Mile Association) with the opening of their Spring Revival. Andy McDonald was the preacher and David Stowe led the worship music. Thanks to both of them for presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ.

That evening I popped in on Dallasburg Baptist Church (Owen County Association). Because of some COVID issues prior to Easter, their children's Easter program had to be postponed to the week after. What a blessing to hear those young people lift their voices to tell the story of Christ's death and resurrection.

This past Sunday Sherry and I joined in on the worship with a nearly packed out congregation at Monterey Baptist Church (Ten Mile). What a blessing! Pastor Jeremy Warren preached a topical message on Matthew 25:21--"Well done, good and faithful servant..." His focal point was on what it means to be "good." In Jeremy's usual creative way of illustration, he flashed up a picture of Chuck Berry's iconic pose singing his signature song, "Johnnie B. Goode" (never imagined I would see that in a sermon). The cultural illustration was actually effective. Jeremy even closed his sermon with his own song lyrics--"Monterey, Be Good." I loved it!!!

What a privilege to preach in two of our Owen/Ten Mile churches this past two weeks--Caney Fork (Owen) and Vine Run (Ten Mile). I preached the same sermon in both churches, and the text was, I believe, a timely truth for a time-conscious season (the New Year). In Romans 13:11-14, Paul gives us three imperatives for 2022--1) WAKE UP, "for now our salvation (the coming of Christ) is nearer than when we first believed;" 2) CAST OFF "the works of darkness;" and 3) PUT ON "the Lord Jesus Christ." These are some timely imperatives for 2022. Who knows, Jesus may come this year. 2022 may be our last year on planet earth. So WAKE UP, CAST OFF the works of darkness, and PUT ON Jesus! Happy New Year.

What a joy it has been for Sherry and I to minister to the folks at Cedar Hill (Owen County) for the past couple of weeks while pastor Bill Allen recovers from a broken back he suffered over the Thanksgiving holidays. I know Bill is looking forward to getting back in his pulpit on the Sunday after Christmas day (please pray for him). A particular treat for me was to preach during the Christmas season. I wrapped up my time with the precious people at Cedar Hill with a sermon out of Philippians 2:6-11. The full significance of the coming of Christ is found in that great passage--His incarnation, crucifixion, and coronation (or to put it another way--the Cradle, the Cross, and the Crown). God used Sherry solo that night to inspire me to preach from that text. She sang "A Cradle in the Shadow of a Cross" by Damaris Carbaugh. Even the Christmas decorations in the sanctuary helped illustrate the truth preached and sang (see the picture). Sherry and I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas.

I was blessed to attend First Baptist Owenton's revival services that started this past Sunday morning. Evangelists Scott Newton Smith and Dave Stahl are leading the meetings. Tonight will bring the meetings to a close (unless God chooses to extend them), so you might plan to attend. The service begins at 7pm.

Had the privilege to worship with the folks at South Fork Baptist Church this past Sunday. David Rayborn from Frankfort is their interim. He preached out of John 12 and Jesus' visit to Bethany, "where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead." Brother David made some great points in his message, but I have to admit that my mind kept thinking about the plot of the chief priests "to put Lazarus to death" (v. 10). Think about it. That young man had already experienced death once. I don't know if Lazarus knew of the plot, but if he did, he probably said to them, "Go ahead. Do your worst. Been there and done that!"

Sherry and I were blessed by the Revival service Sunday morning at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Brother Howard Chipman is the evangelist this week. Please pray for revival among God's people at Pleasant Ridge, and while you are at it, continue to pray fervently for revival and spiritual awakening in America.

On a funny note, pastor Milkweed, with his usual humor, invited the whole congregation to stay for the potluck dinner after the morning worship service. He even singled out my wife and I, inviting us to the dinner. As a matter of fact, he insisted that we stay for it. He said that he would let the air out of my tires and siphon the gas out of my car. Sherry and I looked at one another and chuckled. We had driven to the church that morning on fumes. I was even a little concerned about making it to the gas stationed before being stranded on some lonely road in Owen County. We stayed for the dinner!

Welcome pastor Wayne Whaley to the Ten Mile Association and Paint Lick Baptist Church. Yesterday was his first Sunday, and Sherry and I were blessed to be there. He selected a great text and subject to start his ministry. He preached on the Great Commission out of Matthew 28. To add to my blessing this past Sunday, I attended the Revival service at Long Ridge Baptist Church (Owen County) and heard yet another message with evangelism as its subject. Dr. Todd Gray, Executive Director for the KBC was the preacher, and, as usual, he gave a great message. We were also treated to gospel music by the Hilltop Trio from Lawrenceburg, KY. Those ladies can really sing!!! What a blessed day!
