When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child
she gave birth to a son. ...
they were going to call him Zechariah after his father,
but his mother said in reply,
“No. He will be called John.”
But they answered her,
“There is no one among your relatives who has this name.”
So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called.
He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,”
and all were amazed.
Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed,
and he spoke blessing God. ...
All who heard these things took them to heart, saying,
“What, then, will this child be?
For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.” (Lk. 1:57-66)

A week before Christmas we celebrate the Feast of the Expectation of the Blessed Mother. "Feast originated in Spain. When the feast of the Annunciation (25 March) was transferred to 18 December because of the regulation forbidding feasts in Lent, it remained on this date after the Annunciation was again celebrated on its original date. It impressed on the faithful the sentiments of the Blessed Virgin as the time of her delivery approached."

Today we celebrate so many beautiful events! St. Deborah the Judge (http://www.antiochian.org/node/17095), St. Miriam the sister of Moses, St. Lazarus of Bethany whom Jesus raised after four days (http://catholicsaints.info/saint-lazarus-of-bethany/). Pope Francis is blessed to have been born on this day of great saints!

Today we celebrate Sts. Ananias, Azarias, and Misael, better known as Shadrach, Abednego, and Mishach. They refused to bow down to Nebuchadnezzar II (7th century BC) and were thrown into the fiery furnace where they walked around unhurt with one who looked like the Son of God. This miracle even saved Nebuchadnezzar who decreed their God the only God.
