Communal Penance Service
Tuesday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m., Sacred Heart Parish will host a Communal Penance Service. Several priests will be hearing confessions. This will be the only opportunity that our parishioners will have during this Lenten Season to make a confession to a priest not assigned to our parishes.

On Ash Wednesday we heard from the Old Testament Prophet Joel: “Even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart…. For gracious and merciful is He – slow to anger, rich in kindness, and relenting in punishment.” (Joel 2:12-13) Lent is our opportunity to return to the Lord by humbly confessing our sins in the Sacrament of Penance. Whether you have been away from confession for one month or several years, now is the time to receive the Lord’s Mercy and forgiveness in this beautiful Sacrament. Many of you might remember the term “Easter Duty.” A Catholic’s “Easter Duty” referred to the obligation to go to confession and receive Holy Communion during the Easter season. This obligation is still in effect! “Catholics are obliged to receive Holy Communion during the Easter season.” (Code of Canon Law, no. 920) “The Faithful are obliged to confess grave sins at least once a year. It is recommended that venial sins also be confessed.” (Code of Canon Law, no. 988-989) Everyone is encouraged to make an honest, humble confession before receiving Holy Communion on Easter Sunday.
