From Greg Laurie.. This is Chuck and Kay Smith.
Kay went to be with the Lord today.
She was 94 years old.
We celebrate Pastor Chuck and his willingness to take the young hippy kids into the Church he pastored and give them opportunities to serve the Lord during the Jesus movement. Kids like me.
The fact is,it all started with his wonderful wife, Kay.
She had a burden for these young people that were searching.
She had Chuck drive her down to the pier in Newport Beach where hundreds of young kids were milling about with their long hair and bell bottom jeans and asked the Lord to send them a hippy to talk to.
Chuck initially felt that they all collectively needed a haircut and a job.
The Lord answered Kay’s prayer and opened Chuck’s heart and soon Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa became the epicenter of a genuine spiritual awakening.
There was also a group of young men on drugs that would walk by Chuck and Kay’s house just about everyday and Kay prayed for them specifically. One of those young men was me!
I came to Christ not long after that.
I thank God for the wonderful legacy of this godly woman, Kay Smith and I am certain that the Lord has already said to her, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord!” (Matt. 25: 23)
Chuck and Kay are together again in Heaven.
