News to Note

Dear Florida GMC Family,

Important news about our convening annual conference next month: we can't wait to see you there!

Conference Offering

The Cabinet has unanimously decided on two recipients for our annual conference offering. The offering will be received at our worship service on Friday evening, January 19, 2024, at 7pm. You don't want to miss the powerful preaching of the Rev. Mary Jackson of Ebenezer Methodist Church in Jacksonville.

The Conference offering will be divided in half:

Half of the offering will go to the Florida GMC's Church Planting Fund. We are working hard to build a fund to help our church plants and we hope you'll join us! Planting churches is a core part of the DNA of the Global Methodist Church.

Half of the offering will go to Faith Responders - the new disaster recovery nonprofit/ministry started by Florida GMC Pastor, the Rev. Laura Lambert. Pastor Laura has worked tirelessly from 2022-23 to help hundreds, if not thousands, of families after Hurricanes Ian and Idalia. Sadly, storms are a way of life in Florida, and we want to be prepared to help people as soon as possible.

We encourage you to take an offering at your church and bring the check to annual conference to give during the evening worship service on January 19. Checks can be made payable to Florida GMC.

General Conference Nominations

Don't forget General Conference delegate self-nominations for laity and clergy are now open through December 31 at 5pm. The nomination form can be accessed at: https://floridagmc.org/annual-conference/.

Registration for Annual Conference Continues

Don't forget to register for the convening annual conference. All clergy members, lay members, and guests must do so. Registration is free, but there is a charge if you choose to reserve a meal on Friday or Saturday. Please don't wait! You can access the registration website at: https://floridagmc.org/annual-conference/.

Questions can be sent to Conference Administrator, the Rev. Nako Kellum, at [email protected] or Senior Administrative Assistant to the Cabinet, Julie Bullerdick, at [email protected].

God bless you!

All God's love,

Jay Therrell

President pro tempore

A reflection on a strange farewell - This segment deals with the conclusion to the recent 'special called' Florida Conference, at which they said goodbye to another 74 local churches. The bishop had some choice words for people who 'did not leave in peace.' What could this mean?

Following today's Zoom Annual Conference regarding the successful vote on the disaffiliation of 74 churches, we want to thank Bishop Berlin and the leaders of the Florida Conference. This year, they conducted the disaffiliation process with kindness, and in a professional and thoughtful way. This provided a pathway for 175 churches to disaffiliate from the United Methodist church during the three special called sessions of the Florida Annual Conference.

We wish them well on their continuing journey in the UMC.

Grace and Peace,

On Behalf of the Florida Wesleyan Covenant Association

The GMC is on the move!

“At the beginning of this year, I never imagined I’d be in the role I am today,” said the Rev. Jordan McFall, the President Pro Tem of the Heartland Provisional Annual Conference in the Global Methodist Church. “It’s been a bracing reminder that as God says in Isaiah, ‘My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.’ But it is a great privilege to serve alongside a connection of Global Methodist members from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from the southern plains of Nebraska to the Red River who are passionate about sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with their words, their hands, and their hearts!”
McFall, just 36, is one of two dozen leaders elected to lead a regional body of Global Methodist local churches seeking to be connected to one another. Thousands of local churches in the United States have joined the new denomination over the past year, and leaders like McFall have stepped forward to help them find a home in the GM Church.

Registration is Now Open for the
Convening Annual Conference of the
Florida GMC

Dear Florida GMC Family,

We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the Convening Annual Conference of the Florida GMC. To register click here. This historic event will take place at Living Hope Church in Clermont, Florida.

IMPORTANT: All Clergy and Lay Members to the annual conference MUST register in advance. We also invite you to bring a team from your church as the conference will focus on worship, prayer, equipping, and inspiration. Please register everyone coming to the event.

Here are just a few of the highlights:
On Thursday, January 18, there will be a mandatory clergy half-day apart beginning at 1 pm. During this time the Cabinet will lead us in helping to create a new, God-honoring culture amongst our pastors in Florida.
On Friday, January 19, there will be clergy and laity sessions in the morning. The clergy session will approve a huge ordination class. The laity will have an equipping session focusing on the global discipleship/evangelism tool: ALPHA. The first plenary session will include powerful worship and three anointed speakers on the topics of prayer, evangelism, and discipleship. Holy Communion, worship, receiving our conference offering, and a special time of fellowship will follow that evening.
On Saturday, January 20, the morning will begin with a Bible study led by Central North District Presiding Elder, Patti Thue. Following that, there will be a business session which includes the election of General Conference delegates. The GMC's convening General Conference will be held September 20-26, 2024 in San Jose, Costa Rica. We invite you to begin praying to discern if you are called to represent Florida. Self-nominations will open soon. Please note in keeping with our leaner, less expensive denominational funding that General Conference delegates will be responsible for their own expenses. The Florida Conference is considering how we might be able to fundraise to assist people with some travel costs.
On the afternoon of Saturday, January 20, we will have our very first ordination service with Bishop Mark Webb officiating. There will be 50+ people who will be ordained. Please keep them in your prayers that this will be a time of thanks to God for their faithfulness and a great celebration!
If your church is choosing a new lay member to annual conference for 2024, please make sure you send the name and email address to our Senior Administrative Assistant to the Cabinet, Julie Bullerdick, at [email protected]. This will be especially important as these are the members who will also vote on General Conference delegates.

If you have any questions, please contact Conference Administrator, Rev. Nako Kellum, at [email protected] or Julie Bullerdick at [email protected].
