Today is the day of “between.” The weight of the waiting was pressing on every heart that cringed to the words of Jesus. The stir of the city hushed, and the disciples hidden away in grief and confusion. The mystery and sorrow of the tomb. His followers dwelling in the silence - behind locked doors - mourning with deep grieving. Many likely thinking the story was over. Yet in the waiting, through the pain, and deep grieving, God’s plan of redemption was in motion. The sacrifice was complete but the full gift had not yet been revealed. The birth of a new depth of faith was being birthed through the pains of waiting, in the silence of this Sabbath.

The Word:
📖 Matthew 27:62-66: The tomb is sealed and guarded. The world watches and waits.
📖 Psalm 130:5-6:”I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning.”

Reflect:

Where in your life are you currently “waiting in the dark” for an answer or a change?
How can you lean into the silence today rather than trying to distract yourself from it?
What does it look like to hold onto hope even when you cannot see the light yet?

A Prayer for Today:
Lord, in the quiet of this day, I choose to be still. Teach me to trust You in the seasons of waiting and to find peace in the mysteries I cannot explain. I rest in the hope that ‘the new’ is coming. You are at work in ways I cannot see, I trust you and put my faith in Your perfect timing and perfect plan. Lead me Holy Spirit. Amen.

For the Kids:
Have you ever waited for a big surprise? Today is a waiting day. It feels a little sad and very quiet because Jesus is in the tomb, but we can have a “secret smile” because we know the best surprise ever is about to happen tomorrow morning!

Romans 5:8“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Today is the day the that everything shifted! Jesus, the innocent Lamb of God, took our place on the cross. It is called “Good” because of the Jesus’ selfless submission to the will of the Father, even in the midst of unimaginable suffering. This day the payment for our sins was paid in full. Jesus paid the debt He did not owe that we might receive a salvation we cannot earn by our own merit. Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, became the atoning sacrifice for all sin making a renewed relationship with God the Father available to all who believe. For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross and bore its shame. His self-denying sacrifice made a way for you to be fully forgiven and made right in the eyes of God.

The Word:

📖 Matthew 27:1-61: The account of Jesus’ trial, crucifixion, and burial. “And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.”
📖 Isaiah 53: The prophecy of the Suffering Servant—“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities.”

Reflect:
What specific sins has Jesus taken the punishment for in your life?
Take a moment to search your heart: What do you need to repent of today?
Spend time in quiet gratitude—how does His sacrifice change your “today”?

A Prayer for Today:

Lord Jesus, I stand humbled at the foot of the cross. Thank You for bearing the weight of my sin and for loving me enough to endure the pain I deserved. I receive Your forgiveness and offer You my life. Amen.

For the Kids:

Today is a sad day, but it is also a day of great love. Jesus allowed Himself to be hurt because He wanted to fix our friendship with God. Even when things feel dark and sad, we can remember that Jesus did it all because He loves you more than anything.
