Many seeing ‘luminous angels’ over Ukraine, says major archbishop

Kyiv, Ukraine, Mar 4, 2022 / 07:15 am

The leader of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church said on Friday that “many people” have told him that they have seen “luminous angels over the land of Ukraine.”
Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk was speaking in a video message recorded on March 4 in the besieged Ukrainian capital Kyiv, whose patron saint is St. Michael the Archangel.
“Here in Kyiv we perceive that the patron of our city is the Archangel Michael who with the cry ‘Who is like God?’ cast into the abyss Lucifer — the one who rose up against God’s truth and was the leader of the diabolical armies,” he said.
“We perceive today that the Archangel Michael together with the whole Heavenly Host is fighting for Ukraine. So many people from throughout Ukraine are turning to me saying that they saw luminous angels over the land of Ukraine.”
He added: “Today we pray: O Archangel Michael and all the Powers of Heaven, fight for Ukraine! Cast down that devil who is attacking us and killing us, bringing devastation and death!”

Social media users have shared unverified images purporting to show cloud formations resembling angels in Kyiv.
The city’s association with the Archangel Michael dates back to the medieval era, when the saint featured on the seals of the grand princes of Kievan Rus.
The capital’s coat of arms depicts the Archangel holding a flaming sword and a shield, and a sculpture of the saint stands atop the Lach Gates at Independence Square.
Sightings of angels have been reported in previous wars. A famous example is the Angel of Mons, which was said to have protected British soldiers during World War I’s Battle of Mons in Belgium in 1914. Despite scant evidence, the story captured the British public’s imagination and continues to attract interest today.

OUR LADY AND OUR LIVES
October Is The Month Of The Holy Rosary. Nothing is more a part of our lives than the Rosary. With it, Mary guides us through the New Testament. Tradition says Mary told St Dominic, “If you want to reach these hardened souls and win them over to God, preach my rosary.” As she always does, Mary leads us to Christ. Her rosary with all its mysteries, is the story of the Life of Christ. To complete that story in 2001 Pope St. John Paul II added the Luminous Mysteries. Take Mary by the hand. Her Son will be there, too. Follow the mysteries in order and you will find yourself walking through the New Testament.
I. The rosary begins with the JOYFUL MYSTERIES.
1. The Annunciation
2. The Visitation- Mary visits Elizabeth
3. The Nativity- Jesus is born
4. The Presentation in the temple
5. The Finding of Jesus in the Temple
II. THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES
1. The Baptism in the Jordan
2. The wedding Feast at Cana
3. The proclamation of the Kingdom
4. The Transfiguration
5. The Institution of the Eucharist

III. THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES
1. The Agony in the garden
2. The Scourging at the Pillar
3. The Crowning with thorns
4. The Carrying of the Cross
5. The Crucifixion
IV. THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES
1. The Ascension
2. The Resurrection
3. The Descent of the Holy Ghost
4. The Assumption
5. The Coronation

BE A KID AGAIN, JUST FOR TODAY!
Say "thank you" to your Guardian Angel and ask them to whisper in the ear of your prodigal. Celebrate their feast day today (9-30) with them. Ask the 3 Archangels to pray for your prodigals, too. Their feast day was yesterday.
Angel of God, my Guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here.
Ever this day, be at my side,
to light, to love, to rule, and guide.

OUR LADY AND OUR LIVES: MARY’S BIRTHDAY-SEPTEMBER 8 Like all the rest of us, Mary has a birthday. How do we know it is September 8? We don’t. However, September 8 is nine months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Just like Jesus’ birthday on December 25 is nine months after the Annunciation on March 25. So, tradition tells us the dates and Catholics have celebrated accordingly for centuries.
Like any mother, Mary doesn’t want anything for her birthday other than she wants us to “Do whatever He tells you.” She wants that for all her children. When we pray for all those prodigals we love to find their way back to His Church, we are helping her do what she does for all of us, when we turn to her, she leads us to Her Son, Jesus. Instead of singing Happy Birthday to Mary let’s sing words of the Magnificat:
”My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on
his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name. “

OUR LADY AND OUR LIVES -the Flight into Egypt
Matthew 2: 13-14~ DRV
13 And after they were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. For it will come to pass that Herod will seek the child to destroy him. 14 Who arose, and took the child and his mother by night, and retired into Egypt: and he was there until the death of Herod:
Mary and Joseph left their home and made a hurried flight to Egypt to save their son from Herold’s soldiers. A friend shared with me that her family moved half-way across the Country to keep their own son safe. He had become involved with the wrong crowd leading him close to serving jail time. Luckily, they were able to remove him from all those companions.
Fortunately, the father’s company had a branch office in the city where they moved. The Mom and kids found themselves in a strange place, with no friends. The mother said she spent many hours in prayer. Mary must have found Egypt a place of strangers. How long do you suppose it took her to feel comfortable there?
The number of refugees that make their way to the United States must feel very anxious about their situation, as we do if we move to a new home. When we try to help a newcomer feel welcome, we are honoring the sufferings of Mary—we welcome them as we would welcome her and Joseph and Jesus. Mary’s life reminds us that she can relate to everything we have suffered.

OUR LADY AND OUR LIVES
‘tis the month of our mother. No, it isn’t the month of May when we sing songs to Mary at May Crowning ceremonies and honor her as Queen of Heaven. It isn’t October when we honor her as Queen of the Holy Rosary. It’s September, when we take another look at Mary and realize she lived a real life on this earth that was filled with joys and tears just like we live. This is the month we observe her birthday (Sep 8 ). The month of September is dedicated to Mary as Our Lady of Sorrows.
When someone we love is far away from the Church, our hearts are breaking. The world seems dark. We are almost overcome with pain. We ask, “Why, God?” We don’t understand how it happened. They were practicing Catholics. Now they’re not. It is difficult to think about. We don’t know what will happen, or when. We try to trust that God is working in their lives—but we can’t see any evidence of it. In our suffering we pick up a rosary to pray one Hail Mary after another. We pray the Memorare over and over. We join together in prayer with others who feel the same pain. Is it any wonder that we, in the Marian Mantle Group claim Our Lady of Sorrows as our patron?
When Simeon told her a sword would pierce her heart, she didn’t understand what the future would bring. She knew it would be painful and she knew somehow her baby son would be involved. So, she did what she had done all her life—and what she would continue to do her entire life. She trusted God and held Jesus, her baby son, close to her. This month we will take a look at this woman known also. as Our Lady of Sorrows, and see how her life was much like ours. Our Lady of Sorrows, please pray for us, and for our Children.

Wisdom of Our Church Fathers:

An unknown bishop's words, "it is not possible that the son of so many tears should be lost," encouraged St. Monica to persevere.

"How many mothers are anguished because their children take wrong roads! [St] Monica invites them not to get discouraged but to persevere...keeping their faith in God firm and holding onto prayer with perseverance." ~Pope Benedict XVI

THE SAINT FOR MOTHERS WHO WORRY OVER THEIR CHILDREN: This week we celebrate St Monica, who persevered in prayer for her son many years, yet some say, “She actually wasn’t the one who brought Augustine back to the Faith, it was really St. Ambrose”. When we hear this let us respond with the question: “Who did all the praying that placed St. Ambrose in Augustine’s path so that he might influence him?" Let us trust God to answer our prayers for our loved ones in His Time and in His Way. He knows best. Let us always remember that IT IS ONLY GOD WHO SAVES SOULS. We pray that hearts be softened to receive His message, but God does the rest.
Saint Augustine's story provides hope for all of us who pray for the return of a prodigal to the practice of the Catholic Faith. In his life as a pagan, what evidence existed to encourage his mother that her prayers would be answered by his return to the Faith?
The only answer is her trust in God's word that "prayer Works"[2Chronicles 7:14]; that God would send what/who (Ambrose) was needed to call Augustine back "my sheep hear my voice"[John 10:27-30 ; and that, due to his mother's prayers, abundant Grace "my grace is sufficient"[2Cor 12:9] would someday open Augustine's eyes, mind, and heart. Let us continue to trust and pray.
Several priests saw her prayer for his conversion as hopeless. However, a bishop's words, "it is not possible that the son of so many tears should be lost," encouraged her to persevere.
Monica died the year her prayer was answered. Her perseverance in prayer for her prodigal son, Augustine, gave the Church a great philosopher, theologian, bishop, author of profound writings, saint, and doctor of the Church. What better example of the power of prayer in the lives of prodigal Catholics? St Monica’s feast day is Aug 27. St. Agustine’s is Aug 28.
Prayer to St Monica for Mothers
Blessed Monica, mother of St. Augustine, we give thanks to our Father in Heaven Who looked with mercy upon your tears over your wayward son. His conversion and heroic sanctification were the fruit of your prayers. Dear St. Monica we now ask you to pray with us for all those sons and daughters that have wandered away from God, and to add your prayers to those of all mothers who are worried over their children. Pray also for us that, following your example, we may, in the company of our children, one day enjoy the eternal vision of our Father in Heaven. Amen.

PROBLEMS? On this Feast of her Assumption into Heaven, take them to Mary, Undoer of Knots.
Johann Melchior Georg Schmittdner painted Mary Undoer of Knots to show us the mission granted to Mary by Her Son, Jesus. Since 1700, the painting has hung in the Church of St. Peter in Perlack, Augsburg, Germany. It shows Mary untying the knots in a ribbon. The knots represent the “knots” or problems in a life. Try turning to the Mother of God with your own knots. She is waiting for her children to come to her in prayer. She has promised to carry your prayers to her Son. This title of Mary is a favorite of Pope Francis, who introduced it to the world
POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER TO MARY UNDOER OF KNOTS
Holy Mary, full of God’s presence during the day of your life, you accepted with full humility the Father’s will, and the devil was never capable of tying you up with his confusion.
Once with your Son you interceded for our difficulties, and full of kindness and patience, you gave us example of how to untie the knots in our life. By remaining forever Our Mother, you put in order and make more clear the ties that link us to the Lord.

Holy Mother, Mother of God and our Mother, to you who untie with a motherly heart the knots of our life, we pray to you to receive in your hands (the name of the person), and to free him/her of the knots and confusion with which our enemy attacks.

Through your grace, your intercession and your example deliver us from all evil, Our Lady, and untie the knots that prevent us from being united with God, so that we, free from sin and error, may find Him in all things, may have our hearts placed in Him, and may serve Him always in our brothers and sisters. Amen.

ARE YOU A WONDER WOMAN?
Today, we often hear about a “courageous woman” or a “mighty woman”, Ancestory web sites are always telling us that we might find such a “Wonder Woman” if we research our ancestors.
As you might expect, there is such a woman among the saints. She drew upon her gift of courage from the Holy Spirit, after she listened to the preaching of Francis of Assisi who became her lifelong friend. As a teenager she refused to marry and later, left her home during the night to meet with St Francis and begin to lead the simple life of poverty as Francis taught her. She donned a brown woolen habit and cut her hair. Francis took her to a Benedictine convent, Her Dad and Uncles attacked the convent intending to bring her home. Saint Claire of Assisi clung to the altar and finally took off her veil to show her hair was cut. Two weeks later, her sister Agnes joined her. Soon more women came. They lived a simple life of poverty, austerity, and complete seclusion from the world, according to a Rule which Francis gave them. At age 21, Francis insisted she accept the office of abbess, So she served all her life. For 41 years she taught her sisters to trust in Jesus to take care of them even when danger threatened. With courage, she resisted the constant pressure to live an easier life. Her passion for poverty and humility; mixed with continual prayer was overshadowed only by her generous concern for her sisters. Margaret Carney, OSF, author of Light of Assisi: The Story of Saint Clare writes that too often we think that the imitation of a great saint is the way to make us good. “What [Claire] shows us is that we need only have the courage to unlock what is within us, to spend our days powered by the graced anointing that we already possess” to become a “Wonder Woman.”
“My Lord, I thank you for having created me" St Claire of Assisi

THE STRONGEST PRAYER OF FAITH: Do you want to offer the strongest prayer of faith you can? Then quote St Thomas whose Feast Day is July 3. Scripture tells us that when the other apostles had seen the risen Christ, Thomas refused to believe them. He said, “Not until I see him myself and I can put my finger into his wounds!”
A week later Jesus again appeared and this time Thomas was present. Jesus told him, “Come here and touch my wounds.”
Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God.”
Jesus said, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." (John 20)
Praying is expressing our Faith in Jesus. How to pray the strongest prayer of faith? Say “My Lord and my God.” Pray it often! Many of us add “Lord I do believe, help my unbelief.”
