🏛️ NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING: Proposed Fiscal Year 2027 Property Tax Levy 📢

The Ottumwa City Council will convene for a standalone public hearing to discuss the proposed property tax levy for the upcoming Fiscal Year. This is your primary opportunity to provide direct input on the city’s taxing authority before the budget is finalized. PLEASE NOTE: The stated rate on the form is 21.4049. As mentioned at the March 17, 2026, City Council meeting, through cuts and better than expected insurance quotes, this has gone down to 20.85921 per $1,000. This is a decrease from the Fiscal Year 2026 budget.

🗓️ Date: April 7, 2026
⏰ Time: 5:30 P.M.
📍 Location: City Hall Council Chambers, 105 East Third Street

⚖️ Why this meeting matters:
Under Iowa law, this hearing is dedicated solely to the property tax levy. No other city business will be conducted. This separation ensures total transparency regarding how your tax dollars are calculated and requested.

đź’° Your Input:
Residents and taxpayers have the right to present oral or written testimony. Whether you have questions about the levy rate or wish to file a formal objection, this is the designated forum for that dialogue.

Crews at the Ottumwa, Calvary and Ottumwa Jewish Cemeteries will begin the annual spring clean-up Monday, March 2nd. Families that wish to keep any tributes or memorial decorations need to remove those items from the cemetery prior to that date. If a shepherd’s crook is used to hang an arrangement, families may leave the shepherd’s crook, but please remove the arrangement. Cemetery personnel will remove all floral tributes, decorations and wreaths remaining after that date. Spring and summer decorations can be placed after April 1st.

The Ottumwa, Calvary and Ottumwa Jewish Cemeteries are cleaned twice annually (spring and fall). Residents with questions about the cemetery clean up or the requirements for memorial decorations can call 683-0687.
