A message from Father Dennis:
This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, the final mass of the Christmas season.
As this liturgical season of Christmas draws to a close, I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped in our celebration at our four parishes.
Thank you to all who decorated our churches and prepared our worship environments. Also, thank you to our liturgical ministers who assisted in our celebrations at mass including our lectors, extraordinary ministers of holy communion, sacristans, altar servers, ushers and everyone in between. Thank you to our musicians who provided the wonderful music and to Fr. Carey who presided at two of our vigil masses on Christmas Eve. Thank you to all who supported our food pantry and outreach programs, including our giving trees and our drive for New Hope at St. Pat's. And as Bishop Lucia says, "if I've forgotten anyone, double thanks!"
Today, Sunday, January 11th, begins my assignment as the Director of the Office of Vocation Promotion for the Diocese of Syracuse. If you are not familiar with what that is, the Vocation Director assists and supports others in discerning their call to religious life and aids in the application process to the seminary. I am both honored and humbled to be asked by Bishop Lucia to take on this important role for our local church. The great news is that nothing really changes at our parishes, as I still remain your pastor. While it may be a little more work, I see it as an exciting opportunity to help our diocesan church and our potential candidates for priesthood on their journey.
As we begin a new year, I ask that you please pray for me as I begin my new role, and also please continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, especially from within our parishes. I am confident that there are several young people within our four parishes who would make wonderful priests or religious sisters. Also, don't be afraid to encourage someone who you think would make a good priest or religious sister. I can't tell you how many people told me "I think you would make a good priest" before I ever started thinking about priesthood. It may just be the sign they need to recognize God is calling them.
