SRBC Family:
The news yesterday of the shooting and death of Charlie Kirk has had a significant impact on our world, our country, our community and our families.
We need to pray.
His deep connection with the Republican Party, and to President Trump has been a polarizing element of his life and his conversations in his podcasts and in his speaking events on college campuses across the country.
His unapologetic faith in Jesus Christ as displayed in his relationships, his commentaries, his interviews, his many debates with many who do not believe in Jesus, his podcast and his many engagements of our nations college students also made him a target of misunderstanding, arguments, frustration, and even hate to the point of wanting to silence him in any way possible.
We need to pray.
There will be MANY conversations regarding his death, and his politics and his faith in Jesus Christ alone. In these conversations I want to encourage each of us to be sensitive to the work of the Holy Spirit, offering love, support, compassion and grace, regardless of the perspective of those we are in the company of.
Charlie Kirk engaged with people in this country, and with people internationally to open dialogue with those who did not believe as he did, stating on many occasions and in many ways that when dialogue stops between individuals, it becomes easier to hate the other person. His efforts were to dialogue and keep conversations open, even with those who completely disagreed with him, and he did so with love as he never backed away from the truth of scripture, and of the example set before each of by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We need to pray for each other as we engage our families, our communities and our world in the coming days and weeks and months.
We need to pray for wisdom and salvation for our local, state, and national leaders as they make decisions and engage the communities that God has given them influence and authority over.
We need to pray for wisdom and salvation for our world's leaders as they engage in policy decisions for their people, and with other world leaders.
Our God is in control!
As Paul wrote to the church in Romans 13:1-2
"...for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
I am praying for each of you as we each navigate through our days knowing that we serve The God of all creation.
In His loving grip,
Pastor Todd
