Ricky Manalo, CSP named Pastoral Musician of the Year by NPM -

Manalo will be receiving this award at the 2018 National Association of Pastoral Musicians Conference.

“I feel grateful and humbled,” says Manalo. “I had served as a board member from 2008-12 and also founded the Asian and Pacific Musicians Sub-Committee. So, NPM has always been a part of my music ministry formation. It feels humbling to be recognized by my peers and colleagues!”

Congratulations Ricky!

On Tues., April 24, NPMNY sponsored a presentation on and celebration of the Extended Vigil of Pentecost, which NPMNY Director Christopher Reilly described as the Church’s “best kept liturgical secret.”

Embracing the cultural diversity of the Archdiocese, readings were proclaimed in Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog and Yoruba.

The Reverend Stephen Norton, pastor of St. Benedict Church in the Bronx, presided and delivered an appropriately spirit-filled homily.

The music ministry was provided by NPMNY Board Members under the leadership of Meredith Augustin, Director of Music at host parish St. Francis of Assisi, with Dr. Jennifer Pascual, Director of Music at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, at the helm as organist.

Today's newest Ministry Monday podcast is tailor-made for any pastoral musician, lay person or clergy member who is preparing for Triduum in a leadership position. We had the chance to sit down with Sister Kathleen Harmon and talk about the challenges we, as pastoral musicians, might face in our prayer life (and what to do about them).

Today's newest Ministry Monday podcast discusses the liturgical considerations for clustered parishes, featuring Fr. Paul Turner. It is a great listen for those entering Triduum in a new cluster parish, or for any pastoral leader preparing to enter into a parish consolidation.

NPMNY wishes to thank Fr. Jan Michael Joncas for his extraordinarily informative and entertaining presentation on “The Pursuit of Excellence in the Role of Pastoral Music.” The Columbus Day gathering at Fordham University also provided time for prayer, fellowship and, of course, singing! We are grateful that Fr. Joncas was able to make time in his busy schedule to join us and to share his knowledge, talent and love for music—liturgical and otherwise!
