Maryknoll Lay Missioners

Maryknoll Lay Missioners Maryknoll lay missioners are putting their faith into action. We are striving to transform unjust structures and systems.

A Catholic mission-sending community in nine African, Asian, and American countries, living and working with the marginalized to transform unjust structures together. We are working to build the capacity of local partners to address the needs of their own communities. And we are accompanying people in their daily lives, using our skills and expertise to respond to their most pressing needs. We ser

ve in Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, El Salvador, Haiti, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania and at the U.S.-Mexico border. Ministry areas include: healthcare & health promotion, education & leadership training, sustainable development, justice & peace, and pastoral care & faith formation. Maryknoll Lay Missioners is one of the U.S. Catholic Church's oldest and most experienced global lay mission programs, with the largest number of missioners currently serving overseas — in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Over the past 45 years, we have sent more than 900 men, women and families to 35 countries. We accept single people, married couples, and families with children. Our missioners come from diverse backgrounds and range from age 21 up to people who join us in their retirement. Our members make an initial 3 ½- year (or 2 1/2-year) commitment and can renew their contracts indefinitely. We are the single independent Catholic mission-sending organization structured specifically for lay people who wish to make a long-term of lifelong commitment to global mission. Some of our missioners have spent more than 30 years working with us. For more information, visit https://mklm.org/

Our Maryknoll family applauds Pope Leo XIV and the publication of his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas.

We join our Holy Father in praying for those being digitally excluded, the immense, invisible workforce that AI is dependent on, and that human dignity is respected for the common good of all.

A unified call from the Maryknoll family to disarm exploitative artificial intelligence, protect vulnerable workers, and preserve human dignity in accordance with Pope Leo XIV’s Magnifica Humanitas.

Pope Leo will be publishing his first encyclical, a special document meant to teach us, next week called "Magnificent Humanity."

What do you hope it will include or say?

📣 Magnifica Humanitas, the announcement of Pope Leo’s forthcoming encyclical on the protection of the human person in the age of artificial intelligence; it is the first of his pontificate.
📌 The letter, signed by the Holy Father on May 15th, which is also the 135th anniversary of Rerum Novarum, will be published on May 25th.
