Maryknoll Affiliates

Maryknoll Affiliates We believe that everyone should be treated equally and with dignity, no matter what their circumstances.

Maryknoll Affiliates, while continuing to pursue their own life journeys, commit themselves to the mission goals of Maryknoll in the context of chapters that gather for prayer, reflection, and action. Maryknoll Affiliates challenge one another to witness to mission as a way of life by going beyond borders, locally and globally, walking with the poor and excluded, and striving for peace and justice

for all of God's creation. We accept that each of us is different in our own special way, but all have the common qualities that make us humans, and each one of us should be treated with respect and virtue. No person should be discriminated against because of gender, religion, sexual orientation, language, culture, ethnicity or political, national, or social origin. We acknowledge respect for all creation, including our brothers/sisters in all countries and communities. We are part of this cultural diversity, and our chapters cross borders—not only geographical, but of coexistence, communication, and interaction. Affiliates strive to practice these beliefs, along with the four pillars of Maryknoll Affiliates, in our daily lives. We believe that when we Affiliates practice these beliefs, our own individual mission will be revealed, helping us along the path to a more enriched and fulfilling life.

Today, November 13, is the feast day of Saint Francis Xavier Cabrini; patron Saint of all immigrants. The Bishops of the United States have called upon Catholics to stand in solidarity with all
immigrants and refugees. The Albany Catholic Worker Community joined with other local groups to sponsor a daytime vigil and evening prayer service to show support for our immigrant neighbors. Members of the Albany NY Affiliate chapter were happy to show our support.

Those Who Were Left Behind

Those who were left behind
Immigration- the word may bring to mind images of people waiting in line at border crossings or perhaps boats filled 3x beyond capacity. “Those who were left behind” may lead us to think of refugee family members who remained in the country of origin and did not make the journey. “Those who were left behind” can also refer to those who became physically unable to continue; they ultimately lost their lives making the journey. Battalion SAR - Battalion Search and Rescue founded by Marine veteran James Holman is a group which ventures into the deserts of Arizona and New Mexico to locate those struggling to survive or to recover and give dignity to those who did not. I was present at this powerful memorial service; read about the men and women who are part of these search and recovery missions below:

The Immigration issue continues to challenge the world. Here in the US, policy changes have made dealing with this crisis at the Mexico border even more difficult to navigate. This webinar explains the changes since title 42 expired and what is being done to help those crossing the border.

Three of us (Maryknoll Affiliates) were visiting El Paso just a day before the border mass, we were saddened we couldn't attend but we were there in spirit. MK Affiliates hope to join the the other MK entities at the border who are helping the migrants as they enter the US. Migration issues are here to stay and so is the resolve of the Maryknoll family.

Catholic Nonviolence Initiative, a project of Pax Christi International resulted from two historic joint conferences held with Vatican officials in 2016 and 2019.

In between the two conferences, five roundtable groups researched and wrote on specific aspects of gospel based active nonviolence. Their collective work was presented to the Vatican for the purpose of serving as a framework for an encyclical.
