Most people come to Buddhism through meditation. Sit still. Follow the breath. Notice your thoughts.

Then, sooner or later, a question arises: what is all this actually for?
Meditation is a tool. Behind it sits a whole body of knowledge — the Buddha's description of how life works, why things happen the way they do, and what a human life is actually for. Most of us are never shown that part.

Starting Sunday, September 6, MMC is hosting a monthly Buddhism talk — first Sunday of every month, 1–2 PM, here in Osseo.

It's led by Dr. Yaa, a lay practitioner and a teacher by trade, who is refreshingly direct about what she is and isn't:

"I'm a teacher, not an extraordinary meditator. I sit every day, but my life didn't become more peaceful from sitting alone — it came from understanding the knowledge. It's like finally learning the rules of a game you've been playing your whole life. Once you know them, work doesn't drain you the same way. Life gets lighter. In elementary school, my teacher said the Buddha called human beings noble beings. I looked at the news — deforestation, people taking from the world faster than any animal — and thought: really? That question stuck with me for decades, and I collected many more along the way. Most of mine now have answers, and I want to make them easier to find than they were for me."

The first three months:
Sept 6 — Who is the Buddha, really?
Oct 4 — 84,000 teachings: do you need them all?
Nov 1 — "Purify the mind" — what that means in practice.

Come to one, come to all — each session stands on its own. No background needed, and you don't need to be a "good meditator" to come. In English; Thai or Lao available if needed. Free parking on site. Casual conversation not recorded — dress comfortably and modestly.

No cost, just your time.

💬 Have a question you've always wanted to ask — especially one you were told was too strange? Send it to us ahead of time and we'll bring it into the room: [insert MMC contact info here]
