There is an old hymn that the chorus goes like this:
All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful: The Lord God made them all.
Last summer a Robin built her nest above one of my outdoor lights. She came back to use her home again this year. When I go outside, she flies out of the nest and sits at a distance and noisily chatters at me. I keep trying to tell her I'm not going to hurt her babies. Today, I had the pleasure of seeing their little heads sticking above the nest. They were so still, you would have thought they were statues. I'm guessing momma warned them to be quiet.
Isn't God amazing the way He created the creatures in our world? As I am writing this, I have my patio door open and I hear a variety of birds talking or singing. I would love to know what they are saying. God didn't give us that ability, but God did give us the mandate to respect nature and to not harm His critters. After all, it is their world just as much as it is ours.
Luke 12:6-7, "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."
God loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins. There is no greater love than that.

Yesterday I was in a store when someone behind me began talking, rather loudly. The store clerk asked her a question, and her response made no sense to what the clerk asked. The young woman behind me said a couple of more sentences and without hesitating, answered the clerk and went right back to her former conversation. I turned to see what was going on. The young lady had headphones on and was having a phone conversation with someone through them. Without missing a beat, she began another conversation with her dad and then soon back to the former person she was talking to.
I don't know about you, but I don't care to hear other people's phone conversations. Plus, I think she was very rude to the clerk by not stopping her conversation with the person on the phone before she answered the clerk.
What if God treated our prayers like that? What if He was so busy talking to everyone else, that He ignored me? Would I feel like God even cared if I could hear His conversation with others? We expect God to give us His attention when we are talking to Him. I'm not sure how it is possible, but God hears every prayer and answers every prayer. It may not be answered in the way we want, but there is an answer coming.
Psalm 119:105, "Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path."
Don't be so distracted with talking on your phone that you miss hearing God.

There has been a debate since 1912 about how to eat an Oreo cookie. Do you twist it apart and eat the white filling first? Do you leave it sandwiched together and eat it that way? Do you dunk it in milk first? There is no right or wrong way. They are good no matter how you eat them.
How do you read the Bible? Do you start at the beginning and read it until the end? Do you read it book by book? Do you randomly read a few verses from the 66 different books? There is no right or wrong way. The Bible is good to read no matter how you read it. The important thing to remember is to not read only one verse and try to determine what that one verse means. You need to read what comes before and what comes after to understand what the writer is trying to say.
Too often folks take one verse and interpret it to mean what they want it to mean.
2 Timothy 3:16, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."
In today's world some want to change the meaning of the Word of God. Don't do it! You wouldn't change the formula on how to make Oreo cookies. Don't change the wording of the Bible. They are both good just the way they are.

Genesis 1:25, "God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good."
This is a picture at Ashfall Fossil Beds near Royal, NE. If you have never been there, it is a good place to go. Millions of years ago a super volcano in Idaho spew ash that fell on this region and killed a massive number of animals.
When I visited there, I began thinking about when God created the animals. They were so different than the animals that we have today. There are some similarities, but I wondered how a three-toed horse is now a horse with one hoof on each leg. Then I began wondering what animals will look like thousands of years from now?
I also wondered how much have humans have changed in looks from Adam and Eve? One distinct change may not be in the likeness of the original couple, but rather in the sinfulness of humankind. Sin is rampant in the world and from what the Bible tells us, the time will come when God will wipe away all sin from the earth by destroying the earth. There will come a time when God will create a new heaven and a new earth and the old one will pass away. When that happens I doubt there will be any fossils to study.
I see God in the future of eternal life rather than in studying the past.

I thought I could sleep in this morning. It is raining, so the house was still dark. I looked at the clock, and it was only 5:00 a.m. Great! I snuggled down into the blanket and closed my eyes. Then I heard it. The noise that must have woke me up. That annoying little chirp that sounded every couple of minutes. Oh no! One of the smoke detectors needed their battery changed. Couldn't it have waited at least a couple of hours? I tried to force myself to go back to sleep, but that nasty little noise said, "No! You are getting up extra early and change my battery." Well, I was awake, never to fall back to sleep this morning.
Life is full of annoying little distractions that change our plans. I did not change that battery with a friendly attitude. Then God reminded me to be thankful that such an item has been created to keep me safe in the event of a fire.
That's where I see God today. In the safety that has been provided for us in the blood of Jesus on the cross. Jesus secured our safety into heaven by His sacrifice. How can I have a crabby attitude when I know Jesus has my back?
Matthew 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you."
I got two loads of laundry done and I'm headed to my sewing room. It is a good day, indeed!

I've reached the age where I have trouble remembering names. I can remember a first name or a last name but if it is someone that I've only met a few times, I have trouble putting their full name together. The name will come to me a few hours later, long after meeting with them. It's frustrating. That computer in my brain just gets clogged up with so much information that it has trouble with recall. At least that's what I tell myself. I don't want to admit that it is because I'm getting older.
I'm glad that God knows each one of us by name. ALL of us!!!! God will never forget a single one of his children.
Isaiah 43:1-2, "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you."
Yes, I see God even when I forget something because it reminds me that He has never forgotten me.

Some things in life just don't make sense. Here is another sign that I saw recently that took me a while to figure out what it meant. This is at a state park and there are trail rides that happen there. So I take this to mean that if the trail ride is going across the road in front of you, then you should yield to them. I also get the part about "stand back" because if you are out walking, you want to give the horse riders plenty of room to cross. I still don't get the part that says "speak."
While I was driving through this park I saw God in many places. The overlook gave a beautiful view of the Missouri River. The trees reminded me that God created all living things. Even the trees that were dying reminded me that nothing lives forever in this world. When I got to the summit, the cottonwood seeds were blowing in the breeze and I was reminded how God created a way for living things to reproduce and make new trees or flowers.
Isn't God awesome? Find Him in everything around you.
Isaiah 45:18, "For this is what the Lord says - he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited - he says: "I am the Lord, and there is no other."
I may not understand everything, but I understand God created all.

This is one of those days when many interruptions and distractions took place as I was trying to get ready to go to work. I was running behind and I was becoming anxious. I do not like to be late. Then I looked out my window and saw this little creature. I have never seen a bird like this before. There was a small red spot on the back of its head. Does anyone know what kind of bird it is?
I was reminded that God is in the midst of everything we do and everything we see. This little guy reminded me that God has me in the palm of His hand and in remembering that, I stopped and said, "Thank you God, for showing yourself to me today." I made it to work on time and as I write this, I have a calmness in my heart that only God can give.
Isaiah 41:10, "For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, "Do not fear; I will help you."

Yesterday when I was listening to the song, "You Raise Me Up" I was reminded of being on this mountain. This is Mt. Hood in Oregon. Of course we didn't get to the snowy top, but we did get to where the snow began and that was quite a ways up the mountain. The words in the song that reminded me was: "You raise me up so I can stand on mountains; You raise me up to walk on stormy seas."
I see God in the mountain reminding me that He can bring me through any crisis that I might encounter and bring me back to the mountain top.
Life can be difficult from time to time and for some folks those times can seem like forever. Remember that God is there to bring you out of the valleys.
Isaiah 40:29-31, "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Let God take you to the mountain. The view is beautiful from up there.
Where are you seeing God today?
