A Mini sermon by Seventy Tom McClure, Community of Christ Church.
The Community of Christ's theme for today is "God, An Eternal Community"
Matthew 25:35
"For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in."
Have you ever been hungry in you life? By this I mean have you ever in you been with out food for days, wondering where you might be able to find something, anything to eat?
Have you ever had to wonder where you could lay your head at night and rest?
Have you ever been despised and called vile names?
I never have had to experience any of these thing in my life and would guess that the vast majority of you haven't either.
And yet there vast numbers of men, women and children in this world who face these challenges everyday. And yet the world, in it's "busyness" fails to see or ignores their plight!
There are people in our own communities who face these issues every day! People who TRULY wonder where their next meal is coming from, is someone going to hurt me today, where can I sleep tonight and on and on goes the list.
Too often we fail to see their plight or we see it and choose to ignore it. We as a people of Christ owe them better.
We Christians are called to tend to the welfare of the down trodden, the oppressed of the world; to clothe the naked, feed the hungry, give drink to those who thirst! To do any less denies our claimed faith in the Christ!
Let us today renew our faith and move out to seek those who truly suffer in a world that glorifies wealth and power! Invite them into community!
Amen
