We had a great time in at Sunday worship yesterday. It was "Holy Humor" Sunday as we worshiped with our friends from First United Methodist Church, Osage Iowa. Here's the sermon summary:

There really is a place for laughter in church!
The tradition of Holy Humor Sunday goes back centuries to the āEaster laugh,ā when Christians celebrated the resurrection with humor and joy. The idea behind it was simple but powerful: because of Christ, death does not get the last laugh.
Life gives us plenty of reasons to cry, worry, and grieve. Laughter doesnāt erase those struggles or pretend they arenāt real. Instead, it reminds us that hardship is not the whole story. God is still present. Goodness still exists. Joy can still break through.
Sometimes laughter even comes in the middle of sorrowālike the funny story shared at a funeral that suddenly has everyone laughing through their tears. The grief is still there, but so is love. So are memories. So is life.
Humor can also help us see ourselves more clearly. It lets us laugh at our quirks, traditions, assumptions, and even the ways we practice our faith. Sometimes childrenāand a good jokeācan reveal truths we might otherwise miss.
Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is āa time to weep and a time to laugh.ā Faith makes room for both.
What if laughter isn't a distraction from faith, but sometimes an expression of it?
