Orting Methodist Church began in 1876 as a missionary outpost. On December 9, 1889 four pioneers of Orting came together in faith to place their signatures on the papers of incorporation and the Orting Methodist Church was born. To this day the church still stands on the same piece of land it began and “except for several epidemics the church as been open for worship every Sunday since!” The chur
ch was established to ‘teach, preach and live” the religion of the one true and living God in accordance with Jesus’ revelation in the Holy Scriptures.”
Orting Methodist Church has been a marque of the Orting Valley for over 127 years. The founders of our church include some of the founding families of Orting: R.E. Welts, J.R. Chapman, O. Hutchins, and Gideon Wescott. In subsequent years other founding families made Orting Methodist their home including Varner, Van Scoyoc, Whitsell and Eldredge families. Rich in history as a central part of the life of the Orting Valley, Orting Methodist Church stands as a true testimony of the faithfulness of God’s people. A living witness that God’s Word is faithful and stands forever. The fact that it has lived and served so many years is the testament to the loyalty, faithfulness and sacrifice of many, many faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. God has been with our church every step of the way. Van Scoyoc wrote in 1932: “Orting Methodists have felt themselves to be called and committed to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
Today we remain by grace alone to continue the over 125 year legacy of a place where God has continued to show up time and time again; where lives are transformed by grace and together we are sent back into our community to be a part of the change in our world Jesus died for!
