GOOD MORNING WEST OAKS FAMILY
TODAY IS PENTECOST SUNDAY
Nearly 2,000 years ago, 120 followers of Jesus obeyed His command not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait for the Father’s promise, which “you have heard from Me” to be “baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:4-5).
For more than a week, the 120 believers (including Jesus’ mother) gathered in an upper room, praying and waiting for the promised outpouring. Then it happened! Acts 2:1-4 records that momentous occasion:
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from Heaven, as of a rushing, mighty wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Simon Peter made it plain that the outpouring of the Spirit was more than just a one-time phenomenon when he said, “The promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call”. Empowered by the Spirit, the Church has gone forth into the world and won multiplied millions to Jesus Christ.
