Tumpe (name changed) knows how much God loves her and sought her out — even when she strayed from Him.

“The [Moshi-Arusha Sign Language] translation ... helped me change my life by returning me to Jesus,” she signed to the team in Tanzania.

Tumpe, who is Deaf, learned about Christ in college when a nearby Deaf church shared the gospel with her. She placed her faith in Jesus and passionately served the church.

She moved back to her hometown after graduating and, unfortunately, lost access to the Deaf Christian community. She tried to stay rooted in her faith, but it was difficult without Scripture and fellowship.

Commitment to Jesus became harder when she started dating a non-Christian man. He often claimed God must not be real because He didn’t restore Tumpe’s hearing. Tumpe found herself drifting away from the Lord. She was desperate to seek Christ again but didn’t know how. She felt ashamed.

So God reached out to her.

One day, Tumpe met Bible translators near her parents’ home, and they shared drafts of translated Scripture with her. Amazed, Tumpe requested more materials on sin and forgiveness.

The sign language Scripture helped her realize that her sins were still forgiven through Christ’s sacrifice. She broke up with her boyfriend and pursued the Lord. Her parents, witnessing her transformation, placed their faith in Jesus!

Tumpe is grateful to the translation team for ministering to her and her family. “Even if I am far away, without a Deaf church,” she expressed, “the [Scripture] DVD you produced is helpful to me in staying strong in faith without fear of falling in the trap of sin.”

Praise God for the ways He uses His Word to minister to people’s hearts and change their lives!

God’s Word in the Seenku language has transformed Christians in the Sambla community of Burkina Faso. Previously, many people were influenced by fear and superstitions, looking to spiritual guides and amulets for protection.

But now they have the hope and reassurance that comes from the gospel in their own language. Church leaders have seen an increased number of people place their faith in Jesus and grow their commitment to Him.

One translation project leader shared that every Scripture verse he translates teaches him a lesson. “I bless the Lord for this,” he said, “because in every moment my heart is filled with His Word.”

Another Sambla man, Papa Traore Yaya, is similarly amazed by Scripture in his language. Although he’s been a Christian for over 20 years, it was only recently that he heard God’s Word in his own language for the first time.

He was able to understand its message without the need for interpretation, and it was clearer to him in Seenku than in any other language.

Papa Traore Yaya said, “May the name of our Lord Jesus Christ be raised up everywhere in the Sambla villages.”

Let’s pray for the Sambla community:

🙏 That God will protect the translators and their families, both physically and spiritually, as they work and travel to visit local churches for encouragement and fellowship

🙏 For God to use Scripture reading and listening groups to transform lives in village communities

🙏 That radio broadcasts will reach many listeners and help them become interested in God’s Word

Did you know that during the 1950s, translation work expanded beyond the Americas to countries including the Philippines and Vietnam? Stories of transformation began to spread as God used Scripture to change lives.

Additionally, many female translators entered the field during the 40s and 50s, allowing Bible translation to reach areas and language groups that were previously inaccessible.

When God’s Word is in a language people can truly understand, it changes everything!

The Jita people of Tanzania are excited to have Scripture in their language because it's a way of preserving their cultural identity for future generations. Sometimes even when people are resistant to the gospel message, if they receive a copy of Scripture, they immediately value it because it preserves their language. Then they start reading it, and they come to faith in Jesus.

A big moment of the Jita New Testament dedication was when a community leader held up the first copy of the New Testament for everyone to see. The crowd erupted in cheers, applause and celebration because now they know that God truly speaks their language.

During the dedication, an elderly man using a cane struggled to walk up to the front. He signaled with his hand that he wanted to talk to somebody in charge. The man — who is blind — was sitting in town, heard the loud celebration and wondered what was going on.

Then he heard people reading God’s Word in his own language!

He was so overwhelmed with joy and gratitude that he made his way to the dedication just so that he could shake the hands of the people who translated the Scriptures.

That's the power of God's Word: It compels people, draws them in and transforms their lives. 🙌

Almost two years ago, the Bwatiye people of Nigeria celebrated the arrival of their New Testament! 🎉

One bishop gave thanks to God for their Scripture and prayed that God’s Word in the Bwatiye language would encourage the community to grow and develop spiritually.

Rev. Gareth said, “Today we are not giving you [the Bwatiye people] a book; we are commissioning you, the followers of Jesus in Kwa-Bwatiye-speaking nation, to kickstart a new mission. … It will be led by your own people using your own language.”

That’s why Bible translation matters! It’s not about an end product; it’s about seeing lives transformed as people meet Jesus in a language and format they clearly understand.

Imagine only reading the second book in a two-part series. While you’d understand the final outcome, wouldn’t you want access to the first book too — to fully grasp why the ending is so significant?

Without the first book of the series, context is missing. Pieces of the story feel incomplete, leaving gaps in understanding.

The same is true in Bible translation.

The New Testament reveals the Good News of Jesus — His life, death, resurrection and promised return. But the Old Testament provides the foundation, revealing God’s plan from the beginning and pointing to Jesus as Messiah and Savior. Together, they tell one complete story.

That’s why we desire for all people to have access to the full counsel of God’s Word.

Because of our promised future in Revelation 7:9, we have unwavering confidence that our efforts aren’t in vain. No matter how long it takes, we’ll continue to work toward a day when every man, woman and child is able to read, hear or see Scripture come to life in a language and format they clearly understand.

So we’ll keep moving forward, step by step, milestone by milestone, trusting that God will show up and work as only He can!
