In Islam, raising the hands in supplication (du’a) is a beautiful act of humility, hope, and devotion. It symbolizes turning to Allah alone, acknowledging our dependence on Him, and seeking His mercy, guidance, and blessings.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Indeed, Allah is Modest and Generous. He is shy that when His servant raises his hands to Him, He would return them empty.” (Tirmidhi)

Raising our hands is not because Allah is confined to a place, but because it is a prophetic way of expressing sincere need and connection with our Creator.

This is *sajda* – a prostration of gratitude to Allah that many Muslim players make after scoring, known as *sujood ash‑shukr* (prostration of thankfulness). It’s a reminder that every goal, every moment on the world stage, is ultimately a blessing – not just personal glory.

Faith doesn’t stop at the tunnel. Even under World Cup lights, they remember Who gave them the talent, strength, and opportunity.
