As previously stated the doctrine of armor bearer ministry is unbiblical, and has no place in a New Testament church. This title and its practice is taken out of context from the Old Testament and infused into N.T. church.

Historically in ancient wars fought all across the globe, soldiers utilize armor for protection.
Armor bearers served either kings or high ranking military officials.
The armor weighed about 140 lbs. so the armor bearer didnโt really carry it he transported it into battle via chariot. He help put the armor on the king or the military official. However he cared for it, cleaned it, sharpened it and repaired it when needed. In that day his services were essential and necessary.

In scripture specifically the Old Testament, the armor bears is mentioned 14 times. The first time you see an armor bearer in scripture, ironically he is being ask by the king not help him put on armor but to help him commit suicided. 5 others times the armor bearer is connected with death. Five other times you see an Old Testament of Jonathan and his armor bearer going into battle. Tragically you see Jonathan, King Saul and his armor bearers killed in battle, this divinely brought about by God as he is clearing the throne for David to become king. What todayโs pastors like to point out is that David was King Saulโs armor bearer and they are correct. There is no spiritual significance nor are there anything to suggest it is an office for the N.T. Church. This is same king Saul that that tried to later take Davidโs life.

The concept of an armor bearer in the House of God was a foreign concept and would have never been accepted as it has no place spiritual matters.

The armor bearer has been appointed for the pastor. His loyalty and duties are for the pastor.
If you are intellectually honest, this is what pastors are doing, taking a member and appointing them to a position solely for themselves. Doing the very thing that Lord warn Israel about, and the N.T. church pastors are doing the very thing that God detests. A man appointing another man to serve him.

The so called armour bearer has been relegated to the position of a servant to the pastor. Think about the duties, These so called church servants are expected to carry Bibles, water, robes, towels and many other things that the pastors so desire. They are expected to run errands, pick up clothes from the cleaners, wash the car, mow the lawn, pick up the pastor on Sunday morning, drop off and deliver packages. You will find the armor bearer adds no value to the church or bring no glory to God. If you are honest, what it does is foster the uplifting and hero-worshipping of the pastors instead of The Lord. There is this unhealthy and unspiritual focus on the pastor, and not The Lord. The armor bearer is and has become an unnccesay attraction.,

From a hermeneutical perspective it is a gross misrepresentation of scripture. It is unbiblical and find no scriptural foundation that allows for an Old Testament concept to insert itself as a New Testament doctrine.
No church historian or astute theological student would ever consider the possibility of such a thing.
The armor bearer concept is a very new concept in the church and violates the very tenet of scripture and that is adding to it or wresting the scriptures to ones own destruction.

This misrepresentation has a profound negative effect on the N.T. church. Of course not from the pastorโs point of view so letโs take an another perspective.
The question one should asked, why would a pastor want an armor bearer? Why would he need or desire someone to carry his bible, walk behind him with his robe, and cup of water.
These pastors that desire an armor bearer, desires this false sense of entitlement. Pastors in this time are seeking to be celebrated and celebritized as if they are above the congregation. The armor bearer devishly inflates the egos of pastor, to the degree he actually believe he should have someone serving him.
God call pastors to the pulpit not to a pedestal, to be a laborer not to be lifted up. He is call to the work of the ministry not to be worshipped as a minster.

Let me be clear, pastors in the NT church have armor. However his armor is the same as every other believer who has been born again.

This armor has been specially and specifically designed to fight, not flesh and blood as Old Testament saints battled but a different foe. Well who are we battling with this armor?

God commands not that your armor not be carried but that you put it on.
It would be helpful if we had a N.T. example of the practice that many churches have instituted for their pastors. So questions arise. Did Paul have an armor bearer, did Peter or any of the disciples have armor bearers.

I think this needs no explanation, Christ makes it clear that his ministry was about serving others not having others serve him! The modern day armor bearer is about serving the pastor and not the people.

There is nothing virtuous about having someone serve you. All over the Bible you see great men of God serving but rarely if ever do you see them desiring to be served.

But the pastor need help in the church, they armor bearer just help the church. God foresaw that and he gave the church and pastor help. They are called deacons!

God said go make disciples?

God calls us to be disciples!
God does not call one to the ministry of an armor bearer because there is no such thing.
