Ascension Families

On December 21st, the Ascension Family Ministry will be having its annual Christmas Pageant! This event will be incorporated as part of our next family service. We would love to have children of all ages participate in this year’s portrayal of the events surrounding Christ’s birth.

Sign up is easy, simply send Pastor Scott an email ([email protected]), then mark your calendars for practice starting November 2nd, from Noon until 1. We will have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the kids (if there is an allergy, please let me know and we’ll provide something else).

Also, we need adults to help out with the production of the pageant. This is a great way to be involved and have fun with the amazing kids of Ascension. Please email Scott if you are available.

Ascension Retreat

August 22nd and 23rd the Church of the Ascension will be having a spiritual retreat for everyone in our community.

Dr. Reggie Kidd will be teaching on the topic "who do you say I am?" and opening our insight into who Jesus is in our lives.

This year there will also be age appropriate programming for our youth and children. Christine Newton and a team from St. Thomas Episcopal Church have developed material especially for us.

Cost is $30 for adults and $15 for children. Cost includes snacks and 4 Rivers lunch on Saturday.

Hey families!

This Sunday, at the 10:30 service, Ascension will be having its second family service of the year! Our kids will be serving throughout the service.

If you have a child who would like to participate and has not signed up, please have them to the church by 10:00.

Also, if you have a preschooler, they will be showcasing their song if the month. Practice will be at 10:00 in the Parish Hall.

Hey Families! Get ready for Jungle Safari, Ascension's 2014 VBS. If you have a child from 4 years old up to 5th grade, it is time to sign them up for this year's VBS.

From June 23 - 27, VBS will run from 9 am until noon each day. Cost is $25 if you sign up on or before June 1st, and $35 after until the day of the event.

Our first Family Service is this weekend during the 10:30 service!

Our pre-school kids will be singing during the offertory. They will be practicing at 10:00 in the parish hall.

Dear Parents,
Each week the Ascension Family ministry is involved in developing your student’s and/or child’s passion for Jesus. As we further develop our programming, the next step is to enable our children to experience and interact with the Sunday liturgy.

So, each fifth Sunday of 2014 we will be having a Family service at 10:30. During this service children and students will be performing the lay roles that adults normally are involved in. Things such as ushering, reading, music, and presenting the offering. (For younger children, we ask that parents participate alongside their children.)
This will help them to understand the different elements of the Sunday service, and give you, the parent, a time to teach your children the importance and meaning of these element.

Parent’s resources will be available in the coming weeks at the Children’s registration desk to equip adults to talk to their children about the liturgical elements.

Tomorrow there is 1 service at 10 am followed by the Annual Meeting. All Family Ministry programming will be available. During the Annual Meeting, we will have activities for the children: 0-2 in nursery, preschool and elementary in 101/103 and 6th grade and up in the youth room.

Mark your calendars! We will have a Parents Meeting on Sunday, November 10th at 9:45am (between the services). Come for a brief meeting led by Pastor Scott to learn what is coming up in the next few months for the Family Ministry. We will hear successes and have opportunities for questions.
