“THE TEE SHIRT”

We were strolling through the department store men’s section when I spotted a tee shirt that really caught my eye. It had a painting of a beautiful river scene and down one side it read “He leads me beside the still waters” and down the other, “He restores my soul.”
I said to Karin, “I surely would love to have that shirt!” She sent me on an errand, and when I returned, the shirt was in the basket. Of course, you recognize this as a part of the 23rd Psalm. The book of Psalms is called, “The book of Praises,” because almost every psalm contains some note of praise to God. The 23rd Psalm is one of the most popular and recognized chapters in the book. Pick-up your Bible and read it sometime. You will be blessed for it.

“He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul.”(Psalm 23, in part.)

I love the book of Psalms, and I love, love, love my tee shirt.

LOST AND FOUND”

I was taking out the trash this morning. When I opened the door to the drive way, there sat a little terrier pup that rather impolitely invited himself in to explore our garage.
When I opened the door a second time, there stood a young lady who asked, “Mr. have you seen my dog? She was in tears. I asked what kind of dog it was, and she said he was a small terrier mix. I said, “Yes I’ve seen him. As a matter of fact, he’s exploring my garage right now. What’s his name?”
“Barnie” she replied. I called his name and he trotted right to her. She began to cry. She looked at Barnie in her arms and said, “You were lost but, thank God, you are now found.”
It got me to thinking …We are all a bit like Barnie. He was lost, just like many of us. We are lost, but we can be found. I don’t want to get preachy on you, but the Bible says,
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).
I was lost, but now I’m found. Be like Barnie and me!

FAITH FLOATS ALONG ( # WHO KNOWS?)

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of his glory and grace.” Helen Lemmel.

Sometime around column #19, I lost my eyesight. Oh, I wasn’t blind in the traditional sense, but my eyes were so cloudy, especially my right eye, that I simply could not see, even to write my column. After two rounds of Laser surgery, I am seeing as good as I will probably ever be! But I will never turn my eyes from Jesus.

“ … and the mute man was telling the deaf girl
He’s leaving to answer God’s call
It’s hard to believe but if you don’t trust me
Ask the blind man, he saw it all.” The Booth Brothers

And BTW, Happy birthday to my wife of thirty-two years, Karin Nerbovig Weaver.

MORE DIALOGUE FROM THE DOGHOUSE

Yes, I’m in the doghouse again. We have this beautiful clock that hangs high above the fireplace in the living room. Karin asked me to please bring it down so that we could change the time. As judgment would have it, I decided that I could reach the clock without a ladder … and I did, bringing it down and crashing along with me from the mantle, all of the Easter decorations, the Easter garland and one ceramic rabbit that died in the process.
Talk about a f***y whoop in’. I grabbed my blanket and headed for the doghouse. “Roll over Rover. You’ve got company tonight.” Fortunately, my wife doesn’t hold a grudge for too long, and I was back in the saddle soon.

“SUNSHINE DURING A RAINY TIME”

It has constantly rained for two days here in north Florida, with more predicted to come. Dreary? Yes, but out of the clouds comes a ray of sunshine. Our youngest daughter is with a boy child, will become Conrad Ranger Mowrey in September, 2022.
It is amazing to me how God’s wonderful plan allows for young ones who will replace us at the time of our homegoing. We were never designed to live forever, but rather to create a path for our young ones to follow, should they so desire. Thank you, God for this soon to come grandson. May he grow in stature, and in favor with God and man.

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” (Psalm 127:3).

“DON’BE AFRAID TO DIE

He said,“I’m afraid to die. Can you help me?”
“Well first off, know that I am not a counselor. But I can refer you to several Good Christian counselors who can help you. I don’t give advice, but I do have a couple of opinions I’d like to share.
1. My God is a God of grace. It is a gift. His grace has saved me from the price of sin.
2. My God is a God of forgiveness. He waits to forgive, if we only repent and ask.
3. God loved us so much that He sent his only begotten Son to die on the cross for our sins and offer us everlasting life.

Why are you afraid to die? Death is not a demotion, it is a promotion! An eternity in the presence of Jesus. A Christian should never be afrai

“And after you have suffered a little while [in this life], the God of grace, who has called you into His eternity will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” (1Peter 5:10).

(Readership was down somewhat last week. I suspect for one or two reasons: Either some of my faithful were out in the woods, or they disagreed with Friday’s column. Either way, I will continue to write as inspired.)

“HUNTING SEASON IS HERE AGAIN.”

Hunting season is here in North Florida, 2002. I have all the guns and equipment, and my father was an avid pheasant hunter, but I’ve just never gotten into it.
I have friends … good Christian friends who are avid hunters. They look forward to the season and the anticipation of climbing into their deer stands to await their prey.
I hold no malice for them, but it’s just not for me. I’ve been invited twice this year to go and be a part of the hunting experience, But my answer was always the same …My Bible is my weapon, and my goal has never changed, to lead folks to Jesus Christ and to show them the way.

“Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?” (Job 35:11)

AN INSPIRATIONAL VISIT

I had a visit from a guy named Bill who was actually at our house to look at a generator we were trying to sell. Karin told him a little about me and he asked to meet me. He sat crossed legged on the floor and shared a bit about his ministry. He had a long beard, looked a little disheveled, and I soon learned why. He ministered to fellow bikers, gangs, and homeless folks. People from which most of us would shy away. It was clear to me as we talked that he clearly loved the Lord, and was happy to be God’s ministerial advocate to anyone who would listen. What an inspirational visit! Never judge a book by its cover.

“Jesus tells his followers, ‘all authority in Heaven and on earth has been given unto Me. Go ye therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all things that I have commanded you’” (Matthew 28:18-20.)

MATTHEW CHAPTER ONE

Many consider Matthew Chapter one to be a long boring list of barely pronounceable names and worthy of skipping when reading the book. But let’s take a closer look. Some skeptics say that Matthew’s genealogy is wrong while others, especially Jews from Matthew’s day considered it to be somewhat of a legal document, and an accurate record of the fact that Jesus, through His lineage met the ancestral requirements for the Messiah.
Today, the hobby of genealogy is a big deal. According to the Economic Research Institute, over 3 billion dollars was spent on genealogy products and services in 2019, with projections of 8 billion by 2026. And so it seems to me that any genealogy wonk might truly be interested in Matthew Chapter one. True, it’s a challenge to read, but the message it sends is worth the effort. Give it a try.

“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.” (Matthew 1:1).

(Thank-you and blessings to all of you my faithful who offered up prayers for me during my period of illness,)
