The Prayer of Faith

God is my help in every need;
God does my every hunger feed;
God walks beside me, guides my way
Through every moment of this day.

I now am wise, I now am true,
Patient and kind, and loving, too;
All things I am, can do, and be,
Through Christ the Truth, that is in me.

God is my health, I can’t be sick;
God is my strength, unfailing, quick;
God is my all, I know no fear,
Since God and Love and Truth are here.

As we are dealing with the terrorist attacks around the world this beautiful poem/prayer came to mind one night. I learned it early on in my time at Unity church and memorized it for times when I was in need of a healing or help in a situation in my life. Although we see the words “God” and “Christ” throughout you can replace them in any way you feel comfortable. Sometimes I replace them with the word “love” for love is all there really is unless of course we don’t believe that then “fear” or “hatred” may be all we feel for the moment. But if you let it—love can appear and take over in your life.

Although the terrorists took over the city of Paris for a few hours it was not long before love took over, people helping people, people lighting candles and laying flowers all over the city. People from every country on earth praying for the injured and the dead .

There will always be people on earth who are angry at life and want to take that anger out on others, there will always be people who love and love is the most powerful energy on earth and love will prevail. Love can turn the heart of a future terrorist, if we believe it can.

Love has healed the sick, fed the hungry, and clothed the poor. Love has made people run into a burning building to save some one or jump into a raging river, or pull a person out of a sinking car in a canal.

If you let it love can over take fear, anger, and hatred. Even Jesus on the cross said, “Forgive them for they know not what they do.” I had a congregant who was stabbed over 60 times by an assailant in her kitchen, the police found him, he was tried and went to jail. One day she realized that if she did not forgive him he would control her life for the rest of her life. So she went to the jail and faced him one-on-one and did just that. Her forgiveness saved her life and her mental stability. The justice system took care of the perpetrator.

When hate fills your heart find someone to love.

New Year’s : Letting Go, Letting Be.



Eternal Spirit,

Earth-maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver,

Source of All That Is, Ground of All Being, Destination of All Souls.



It is night.

The night is for stillness.

Let us be still in your presence.



This night ends a long year.

What has been done has been done;

what has not been done has not been done;

May we let it go,

May we let it be.



The night is dark.

May our fears of the darkness of the world

and the Shadow within our own lives

rest in you this night.



The celebrations for a new year have ended.

May the quietness of your peace enfold us,

all who are dear to us,

and all who have no peace this night.



The night heralds the dawn.

The morning shall bring

a new day,

a new year,

Let us look expectantly ahead

new joys,

new possibilities.

May we open this new chapter of our lives together

In peace, hope and trust.

THE LIGHT OF CHRIST

The Christmas Mystery has two parts: The Nativity and the Epiphany. A deep instinct made the Church separate
these two feasts. In the first we commemorate Gods humble entrance into human life, the emergence and birth of the Holy, and in the second its manifestation to the world, the revelation of the Supernatural made in that life. And the two phases concern our inner lives very closely too. The first only happens in order that the second may happen, and the second cannot happen without the first. Christ is a Light to lighten the Gentiles as well as the Glory of His people Israel. Think of what the Gentile was when these words were written --- an absolute outsider. All cozy religious exclusiveness falls before that thought.


It is easy for the devout to join up with the Shepherds and fall into place at the Crib and look out into the surrounding night and say, "Look at those extraordinary intellectuals wandering about after a star, with no religious sense at all! Look at that clumsy camel, what an unspiritual animal it is! We know the ox and the ass are the right animals to have! Look what q***r gifts and odd types of self-consecration they are bringing; not the sort of people who come to church!"


But remember that the Child who began by recieving these very unexpected pilgrims had a woman of the streets for His faithful friend and two thieves for His comrades at the end: and looking at these two extremes let us try to learn a little of the height and breadth and depth of His love---and then apply it to our own lives. It was said of Father Wainwright that he cared above all for scamps and drunkards and unbelievers--least for thoise who came regularly to church--and no man of our time was fuller of the Spirit of Christ.


Thr first point about Epiphany is that ALL are called and welcomed and accepted. Our own loving adoration and deep certitude is never to break our brotherhood with those who come longer journeys by other paths, led by a different star. The Magi took more trouble than the Shepherds. The intellectual virtues and intellectual longings of men are all blessed in Christ. In our souls too the mysteries must be brought forth: we are not really Christians till that has been done. "The Eternal Birth," says Eckhart "must take place in you." And another mystic says human nature is like a stable inhabited by the ox of passion and the ass of prejudice, animals which take up a lot of room and which I suppose most of us are feeding on the quiet, In between them, pushing them out, Christ must be born.

CHRISTMAS 2018 PASTORAL MESSAGE

SOUL PEACE

If there is one condition on which most rational people can agree, it is that the world is in dire need of more PEACE. It is "How To Achieve " this noble goal which bedevils most folk.

The condition of THE WORLD is a direct collective reflection of the condition of each individual person inhabiting the world. Our lives tend to be scattered and fragmented.

The Mystics of all ages are consistent in telling us that we need to spend more time in solitude and silence, to nurture the strength of the Soul. Entering The Silence, we are alone with The Divine, and are enabled to be receptive to Divine guidance and inspiration. Our lives
become ordered and regulated by Divine guidance, and this order is reflected in our ordinary daily lives by confidence, assurance, goodwill and harmony, which again reflects to our community, and from our community to the world at large.

YES, this simple ordinary daily practice of spending time in THE SILENCE will have extra-ordinary effects in establishing and nurturing WORLD PEACE.

In light of this unique perspective we may feel justified to change the words of the traditional Christmas hymn to: "Silent Mind, Holy Mind, All Is Calm, All Is Bright"

One of the simplest and easy methods of to learn ENTERING THE SILENCE is called
"CENTERING PRAYER". Anyone can learn Centering Prayer.
