What a powerful and unforgettable day in the life of our church!

This past Sunday, April 19th, more than 235 worshippers filled our sanctuary as we celebrated our 130th Anniversary with a special Homecoming Worship Service.

Our year-long theme is “Renewed by Spirit, Rooted in Faith,” and the Spirit was certainly moving this weekend.

A tremendous thank you to our guest preacher, The Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, Senior Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, for delivering a dynamic and timely sermon that brought the entire congregation to its feet.

We were equally blessed to welcome home his wife, Monica Brown Moss, a beloved daughter of our congregation. Dr. and Mrs. Moss were married in our church in 1994 by the late Father Nelson Pinder. During the service, Mrs. Moss was presented with a printed copy of our anniversary souvenir journal, "A Living Legacy: 130 Years of Faith, Worship, and Service."

It was also our profound privilege to honor several pillars of our church family who have given 50 or more years of faithful dedication to St. John the Baptist. Each was presented with a token of appreciation and a printed journal to recognize their enduring commitment:

Ernest “Pete” Boyd – Longest‑serving Senior Warden (27 years) and Choirmaster Emeritus

Shirley Bradley – Longest‑serving choir member (65+ years), former ECW President, and Vestry member

Dr. Lorraine Harris – First female Senior Warden, former Vestry Secretary, ECW President and diocesan leader

Juanita Humphries – Longest‑tenured member, with more than 80 years of membership

Sylvia McElroy – Former longtime Chair of the Social Concerns Committee and Food Pantry Ministry

Marian Pinder – Cherished wife of the late Father Nelson Pinder and honorary “First Lady” of the church

Nell Tisdale – Our "wisest" member at 99 years young, former ECW President, and Vestry member

Sylvia Warren – Retired Verger, former Altar Guild President, and Vestry member

Thank you to everyone who made this Sunday so incredibly special. Here is to 130 years, and many more to come!
