Happy EASTER, fellow D!💐
The Lord is risen indeed, alleluia.

Happy Easter Monday!

It is easy to feel like well that’s it until next Easter. Many disciples felt that way and some returned to their old lives. It’s humanly normal to feel like that. Two thing will most likely make us behave like this: if we did not surrender our hearts to Jesus for a personal, intimate and transforming relationship with Him. Another reason would be if we did not journey with Him through His suffering and death. And it is not late at
This point to be able to turn to Him and catch up with the resurrection team.

Like Mary Magdalene and the other disciples, our response and action is to go forth with the message of the resurrection, the message of new lives in Him. No more death, but only life, the life He brought us all.

Now, what could be that old life of yours nagging you to return to it, pulling you down and backwards? Can you let Christ declare victory over that and raise you up into His new life? He remains our solid rock foundation that will NEVER fail; HE WON’T FAIL. Alleluia!💐❤️🪴🍇🙏

The Lord is indeed risen. We sing alleluia!

HOLY SATURDAY

The day of silence, extreme fatigue, desolation, but also a day of transition. Jesus is dead and gone. His disciples are mourning and hiding, wondering what life is going to be like for them going forward. They all were in the tomb with Him for the brand new, amazing life of the resurrection. We all were in the tomb and we are all called out to this new life.

SIXTH WORD: It is finished…(Jn.19:30). Both defeat and victory expressed here. It is finished, over, done with self-emptying, finished the journey of being crucified. Death being defeated by the death of Jesus Christ the Messiah. Death is overcome by his faithfulness, his unconditional sacrifice, His great love for us through suffering and death. GOD IS DEAD FOR US.

The earth trembled, the entire creation and all that is within it was dead in Christ for the new life.
Adam and Eve lead the whole humanity into sin and death. Jesus went into death to lead the whole humanity out into new life.

SEVENTH WORD: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.”(Lk.23:46). Jesus died immediately after these words.
The Roman soldier Abenadar who had been with Jesus most of the way from the time He was condemned to death. powerfully professed: “Truly, this man was the Son of God.” Many believe he was converted after such powerful profession of faith.

With these words, Jesus achieved a Solemn and perfect reconciliation with the Father, overcome the second agony, the power of death and was confident of the Father’s love for Him and the resurrection awaiting him. By way of obedience, Jesus died in the Father’s arms.

The veil in the temple was torn in two, wide open; God grieved the death of his son like Job and many others. He also opened up the holy of holy to all; nothing was hidden anymore, no more restrictions, He gave it all to us. We’ve all been brought in as children and heirs of God’s kingdom. His faithfulness, obedience all the way earned us salvation. He paid the ransom and paid it all to the Father for us. He became the eternal, mighty and undefeated advocate for us (Philippians 2:5-11).
How much of this new life is in you? AMAZING GRACE!

Lord Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

GOOD FRIDAY

God Jesus on the cross became the most meaningful act and explanation of our salvation. GOD DIED FOUR OUR SINS.

The self-emptying of God on the cross becomes the true understanding of His Love. A very devastating, sad, painful and somber, yet good day for us and the entire humanity. God unlocked all his goodness for us on this day.

FIFTH WORD:
“I thirst…”(Jn.19:28). At this point, Jesus had lost a lot of blood and water; He looked pale, extremely dehydrated. He had longed and hoped for water to quench his thirst. Jesus was thirsty all his life: thirsty for us to get to know Him as the author of our salvation, the spring of the living water, our redemption. He revealed that to the Samaritan woman by asking her to help Him with some water to drink (John 4:7-31).

Water is life, it is powerful and full of spiritual meanings; Jesus was squeezed to the last drop for our sins and vinegar was given to him instead of water, maybe after Fruitless attempts from his disciples.

This was the last interaction Jesus had with the people and He was done; he was disfigured and given vinegar as the last price for our sins.

Lord Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

HOLY THURSDAY:

Today begins the three greatest days in the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ prior to His resurrection. They are also known as the pascal Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday). At the center of Holy Thursday are the great commandment and the last super (the institution of the Eucharist/communion). Jesus sealed the New Covenant this night and was all set for his suffering and death. He actively got Himself ready; He was ready and troubled at the same time.

FOURTH WORD:
“Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabacthani…”(Mk.15:34). We should said Jesus reached the point of total self-emptying. We are told the effect of the eclipse continued to affect Jerusalem and the rest of the world, creating a very somber atmosphere; trembling fear, sadness, shame, horror, lamentations, recrimination were occupying the hearts and minds of leaders and many people. Many for sure wished they could reverse course. People like Pilate, Herod, high priest Caiaphas and his father-in-law Annas, the pharisees and scribes got quite divided while persisting in darkness and sin.

The Son of God, the author of creation had been tortured and put to death in the most shameful and excruciating way. The whole Universe was caught in the moment and was dying with Him. Jesus reached the highest point of his second agony and loneliness; the first one being in the garden (Lk.22:42-44).

Pharisees mocked him the more (He is calling prophet Eli); his mother, John and the few disciples who had remained with Him were moved by his voice and hoped for something different, something better coming from Him. This cry came out after a long moment of silence, close to his 3pm death hour.

Jesus became a passive atheist: thought of Himself deprived of God, a man without God anymore.

Jesus experienced great agony, loneliness, abandonment; the price of a complete self-emptying for our salvation, physically and spiritually (Kenosis).

God suffered loneliness, rejection; He was violently tormented and suffered beyond compare for all. To follow Christ does not necessarily remove suffering from our lives, but guarantees us eternal life and joy in heaven.

Lord Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

WEDNESDAY OF THE HOLY WEEK.

THIRD WORD:
Woman, behold your son…(Jn.19:26).
Deeper sadness, grief, fear, confusion, shame, guilt, loneliness began to settle in the hearts and minds of many. Holy Mary, the mother of Jesus at this point was inconsolable, a woman and mother filled with sorrow, desolation, pain, grief, extreme fatigue and fear, not knowing what her future was going to be like without her son.

Jesus had not forgotten his mother and knew she was beyond devastation; she was stricken by sorrow, pain and fear. He helped his mother loosen up a little bit by diverting attention or better renewing her hope and reorienting her energy. A mother who most likely wanted to die with her Son and not remain behind in the midst of many who persecuted and killed him.

Woman to Him and mother to John, Jesus spoke to his mother as God and savior just like He did at the wedding feast at Cana. He renewed her faith and strength, encouraged her to carry on as mother for John and for many other sons and daughters who could use her help to follow Jesus. Mary was given to John and John to Mary as mother and son; she is given to us today as a unique model of discipleship, motherhood and woman of faith.
She occupies a unique place of a spiritual mother to all who claim Jesus as our brother and savior. She is one of the greatest witnesses of the paschal mystery, the first to welcome the son of God into the world.

Jesus continued to care and minister as the savior of the world, a loving son of his mother, the true high priest and the new and eternal lamb of the sacrifice for our sins until death. He died so we may have life and life in abundance.

Lord Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Mary mother of Jesus, intercede for us.

TUESDAY OF THE HOLY WEEK

SECOND WORD:
Truly, I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise (Lk.23:43).
We are told around this time, the Sun experienced an eclipse and was around midday or into the afternoon. More people were leaving the scene; dramas, commotions and excitements have all died out and reality started to sink in. Fear and even horror, guilt and confusion entered the minds and hearts of many. They thought a prophet, an innocent man had just been executed.

Jesus was defeated, nearing the end with death right in front of him. One thing He longed for and was ready to deliver even at the very last minute was FORGIVENESS; this is what He came for and the penitent thief ran for it. Dismas opened his heart to Jesus; he defended Him, turned to Him for forgiveness and received more than he had asked for. He prayed and asked that Jesus would remember him. Jesus told him He was not just going to remember him; He was going to have him in paradise with Him.

The world had sinned and was in darkness and death. Like the good thief, only those who turn and run to Jesus die with Him and rise into new and eternal life.

The good thief followed Jesus, was baptized and became His disciple while on the cross. Most likely his words inspired and touched and opened the hearts of many who were around. They comforted Mary, John and the very few disciples who were still present.

All of us in this world only have two choices: the good or the bad thief; we all have sinned. How good of a thief you believe you are? What can you and I learn from Dismas? Who is out there you need to stop mocking, abusing, hurting, exploiting, neglecting? Can you stop and switch from being a bad thief to becoming a good one?

Lord Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

HOLY WEEK AND JESUS’ 7 LAST WORDS

MONDAY OF THE HOLY WEEK
FIRST WORD:

He said all these last words on the cross. The Cross remains the most powerful, most meaningful image, sign in Christian faith. It is the “unsurpassable self-definition of God” (Walter Kasper). Also because of the cross, divine freedom came to be understood as the freedom of self-dispossession. (Anne Hunt)

1/ Father, forgive them for they do not know…(LK.23:34):
After so much physical and psychological abuse, brutal and excruciating treatments against Him, Jesus was severely weakened, became colorless, disfigured and began to die. The insults of the unrepentant thief (Gestas) were added to the list of abuses. Yet, Jesus maintained one unique strength, power, gift: Forgiveness. It was pronounced and delivered. He prayed:
Father, forgive them…
Dismas (the penitent thief) was moved by the grace of this prayer of Jesus to the Father and defended Jesus from the other thief. He did not just defend Jesus, he turned to Him, prayed and asked for forgiveness.

The two thieves very well represented our humanity before God as made of the unrepentant and the penitent ones(Rm. 5:19-6:1). We’ve all sinned, but are we all repenting, turning to Jesus or turning against Him?
Like Dismas, we can pray to Jesus with sincere, contrite hearts and minds, admit our sins and obtain the same forgiveness He gave to this thief.

Lord, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

03/31/2026

DAY 40/PALM SUNDAY:

Philippians 2:5-11:
LET THE SAME MIND, HEART, ATTITUDE, LIFE STYLE OF CHRIST BE YOURS.
Those who followed and came to know who He was are the reason why we have Palm Sunday today. They solemnly welcomed Him into Jerusalem saying Hosana in the highest: come save us, deliver us, Lord. That was their Palm Sunday; how is yours today?

The same mind Paul is talking about to the Philippians is centered on the obedience of Jesus to His Father. And at the center of His obedience is his heart. His obedience to the Father is out of love which is His very nature. It is not out of fear, profit or authoritarian submission. Doing the will of His Father was what His whole life on earth was about.

This is the mind Paul is talking about and calling the Philippians and all of us to have. There is no way we can do the will of the Father through Jesus Christ without fundamentally and truly embracing obedience as our way of life; obedience to God, not to the world.

Paul is describing Jesus’ obedience as something above His mighty, powerful nature as God and equal to God the Father. He lived and demonstrated who He was and what He came for by prioritizing the will of the Father and His obedience to this will. He humbled Himself, lived a simple and poor life all the way to dying brutally, powerlessly and shamefully on the cross for to fulfill Father’s will. This will was nothing other than saving us and the entire creation from sin and death. Saving us by way of his obedience to the Father was far more important that clinging to his position of divine might and power. To be insecure or even just concerned about his nature and power was nowhere in His mind or heart.

The combined understanding and embrace of God’s will and obedience to Him through Christ gives us power on earth and in heaven like Jesus. This is the very same nature Paul speaks about. Without the obedience of Christ in us, it is impossible to understand and become a true child of God. The biggest temptation and threat to our faithfulness and obedience to the Father through Christ occur when foces and powers of this world make us believe we’ve lost all power and control and push us into dispair, confusion and surrender.
How can we train and equip ourselves with this same mind and heart of Christ as we prepare to celebrate Easter?
HOSANA IN THE HIGHEST!

03/29/2026

DAY 39:

John 11:45-53:
The death and resurrection of Lazarus, the healing of so many people, the many miracles and amazing teachings at this point earned Jesus many followers and believers. They were busy talking about Jesus out there, bearing witness and seeing their own lives transformed. Jesus spoke directly to and touched the hearts of many; He spoke life not death. People’s hearts, our hearts were Jesus’ focus.

The high priests, Pharisees, scribes and their followers on their side kept hardening their hearts and putting together all kinds of reasons and excuses to arrest and put Jesus to death. By pursuing death as the way to address the matter, they literally embraced death for themselves. They were putting all these efforts together in secret, in the dark. Jesus was out there in public, in the light with the people speaking life, leading people from death to life. Hardening of heart by the high priests and Pharisees was dominated by darkness, fear, hypocrisy and death.

As Jesus amplified his message and works of life and freedom for us, high priests, Pharisees and scribes zeroed in on Him with the power of death. This the real meaning of Him sacrificing his own life so to save ours, to generate the spring of life for us. High priest Caiaphas prophesied it all so well without knowing, that Jesus had to die for the nation, for many. The once for all sacrifice that covered all and can never be surpassed.

As we enter the Holy Week, I pray and hope Lent has helped us return to this Jesus, not our own ‘pick and choose’ Jesus out there. This Jesus who brought life for us and others, not death. This Jesus who sacrificed all for us to be set free from death, fear, prejudice, greed, violence, dominion of material and fleshly desires, discrimination and many other forces of death.

He died so we may all have life. Who are you, who am I to inflict death on others? To follow Christ is to live, not to die; to live for oneself and for others. BE A LIFE SPEAKER FOR YOURSELF AND FOR OTHERS.

DAY 38

John 10:31-42:
Some were busy rejecting Him and picking up stones to throw at Him; some others were following Him and believing in Him. It went on like that until his death and resurrection. It is still going on like that today. They liked the good He did and even benefited from, but they did not like who He said He was; they didn’t agree with Him when He said He was the son of God.

His identity and the source of so much outpouring of love and goodness did not matter to them. They were not interested in knowing Him better, but interested in the good work, the wonders He did as long as it all fit within their norms, expectations and interests. They wanted Him to perform miracles, entertain and make them happy without going into detail on who He was. REALLY SAD!

Jesus longed to be known and to enter into loving relationships with the people. Many were not interested in that approach. Instead, they wanted to materially benefit from Him, use Him and profit from Him in their wants, their ego, greed, fear, insecurity, and ignorance. They wanted Him for what He could do and not for who He was.

Lent is a special, powerful time to return to who Jesus is and the relationship He longs to have with us. The same sense of identity and relationship He wants us to cultivate toward one another. The world tragically pushes us into transactions and not relationships, into using, exploiting others, benefiting from them without caring about knowing who they are, where they are from and entering into loving, caring relationships with them. We turn one another into enemies because we don’t want or have no time to know who they are. Many of us today are being recruited for a life of transactions apparently in God’s name by powerful forces of this world, sometimes even without us knowing it.

For those who believed and still believe in Him, He entered into an amazing, eternal relationship of love and freedom with them, setting them free from a life of transactions, a life of exploiting, using others without caring; setting them free from a life of ignorance and blindness powers and principalities of this world easily use for their own gain.

Lent is a time to renew, repair, grow one’s relationship with God through Christ Jesus.

03/28/2026

DAY 37:

John 8:51-59
WHOEVER KEEPS MY WORD WILL NEVER TASTE DEATH:
Keeping Jesus’ word is an expression full of meanings. It is synonymous to keeping his great commandment; it is the same as whoever picks up his cross and follows Jesus. Again, the heart here is very important because it is where the word will be kept; no longer in appeances or in pretense but deep and truthfully in our hearts. His word being the living water, the words of eternal life as Peter said, cannot allow death where it has found a home; where it has established itself in the hearts of the faithful.

Those who could not understand Him and even called Him a demon were those who kept relying on appearances, on the outside and perishable realities. They could not surrender their hearts to God for such a transformative power through His word. They could not believe He had that much power, even being older than father Abraham. They failed to believe He was the son of the living God.

This kind of truth requires strong faith that only the heart can handle; a faith that requires a relationship with Jesus far more than just the reading of the sacred texts and the observance of the commandments. One needed to take the word in their heart for a transformation inside out. This was a new life that consisted of an authentic living and not mere observances or performances. Through His word, Jesus Himself lived in those who kept it.

Lent is a special time to reclaim ourselves as keepers of His word and heirs of life everlasting, breaking free from any power of death. We must remember that there are so many things today that cause us to question, underestimate and even dismiss Jesus, wanting Him to be seen as just one of prophets. There are things we do today or believe in and practice that limit ourselves and distort the real identity of Christ in our lives. We either doubt Him or make false claims for our earthly interests. Today, things like culture, religion, politics, power and wealth, fear, prejudice, the fear of our differences, fleshly desires and gratifications push us to either doubt Jesus or make false claims in His name. Returning to Him fully and authentically as the word of life, the living water, the power over death, this is what Lent is all about.
