Today, the National Latino Evangelical Coalition (NaLEC), alongside the National Association of Evangelicals, World Relief, Women of Welcome, And Campaign, CCDA - Christian Community Development Association, UNDIVIDED, The Evangelical Covenant Church, The Wesleyan Church, Church of God Hispanic Ministries, Vineyard USA, Florida District Church of the Nazarene, Southern Florida District Church of the Nazarene, Pastors and leaders representing tens of thousands of Christians across the country, called on the administration to extend or redesignate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for El Salvador and Haiti.
For churches and communities across the nation, TPS is not simply a policy conversation. It directly affects families, children, churches, workplaces, and communities who are navigating profound uncertainty.
NaLEC is grateful for and celebrates this temporary hold as an important moment of relief and continued hope for affected families. At the same time, we continue to pray and advocate for long-term solutions that provide stability, clarity, and dignity for families and communities.
Following the termination of Haiti’s TPS designation this summer, evangelical leaders are urging the Administration to provide clarity, adequate notice, due process, and a compassionate transition for those affected. The coalition is also calling for an extension or redesignation of TPS for El Salvador, whose designation is scheduled to expire today, September 9, 2026.
As Rev. Dr. Jeanette Vargas Salguero, Co-Founder of NaLEC, shared:
“Our faith calls us to stand with these families and urge an orderly, compassionate response that provides clarity rather than uncertainty.”
We believe a nation can uphold the rule of law while also upholding human dignity, family unity, and compassion.
This is part of what it means for the Church to be a faithful witness: to listen, to serve, to advocate, and to stand with communities facing uncertainty.
